21 - Frenkie de Jong

frankie was OK to be subbed on at that time with possible overtime. but ferran for lewa was a brain dead sub. sorry bit flicked fucked this up both with these subs and in the espanol game
 
If you consider the fact that we extended our points total in the league without him.

Got K.O in the Copa with him during the 0-4.

Made it pass Newcastle without him and played well very atletico as well.

The argument can be made.

But to be fair he did play well for us in the first half and in a few games really helped us to win.

He's good to have, but just not critical.

Clearly one of most important players and best partner for Pedri.

Barca have won league twice in row with Gavi being a non entity.. Gavi who still to date has never started a game in a European tie Barca have won.

Not remotely 'critical'.

Was not great v Inter last season either.

Barca extended lead in league without 'Pedri the Pedri'.

Still one of top players in team.

You have no clue about midfielders... 'Gavi is more important than Pedri'... 'Gundo Barcas best midfielder and has to stay'... 'Casado is top'.

De Jong has never been a decisive player in big games, and he never will be. He just doesn't have balls for that. We can talk about whether he was missed yesterday or not, but I’m convinced that he’s not a player who will make the difference in big matches like for example Raphinha does. Also, a lot of people are still doubting Marc Bernal, who in a few games has shown more in the attacking aspect of the game than Frenkie de Jong.

All that being said, I’m quite sure that this team would benefit from having a physically strong defensive midfielder in the roster.

Frenkie was one of Barcas top players in each round of the CL KO ties last season and has probably been Barcas best player on average v Real Madrid in last 4/5 years.

Nothing is guaranteed with any player though.. just having as many of best players available gives the best chance to win/go through.

Bernal has played higher up with Pedri as has not been great at progressing ball and Pedri has suffered a bit.

Bernal may be one of best midfiedlers Barca have at finding space in box but he is miles off Pedri and Frenkie on ball currently.

Don't think anyone can say he would have made a difference yesterday specifically with a straight face, last time he played them, they shipped 4 passed us and Gavi did a better job that expected yesterday.

We just failed to convert our chances & have up a stupid goal

Gavi was ok but lacked on ball and left Pedri trying to do too much on his own.

Its like saying Garcia out for Scezny makes no difference as he fucked up and conceded 4 past them last time.

Or saying any of the players that played that day wouldnt be missed.

What cant do v these teams is play shite like Casado but that wont be an issue soon.

Why didn't he made a difference when they shipped 4 passed us.

When he was supposedily the difference when real did and he wasn't on the field?.

4-0 against atletico, oh well you see what has happen was...

4-0 against Madrid. It happen because Frenkie was missing.

How many times have we beaten real without him again?.

Why didnt Joan Garcia make a difference when Atletico put 4 past Barca?

Frenkie had a poor game as did whole team.. had missed training and reports were should not have been playing also.

Maybe dont play shite like Casado and concede 3 before taking him off early helps also.

I agree on Casado 100%. Look I am the first one who expected more from FDJ when he arrived. However, years later I am still not sure if he is what we actually need. IMHO our entire team would benefit more from a proper DM player than FDJ. He is world class at distributing and progresing the ball. However, In all other aspects of the game both attacking and defending wise I personally don't rate him so highly anymore.

Attacking wise he doesn't provide much, he rarely scores and he rarely makes the final pass. Furthermore, he rarely finds space in box like Bernal does or like years before prime Rakitic did. Defending wise he is also not particularly good, he is too soft and he rarely intercepts passes. I am sure Pedri would benefit much more from a player who can actually protect his back more than FDJ can.

Right now we are playing with 2 creative pivots and none of those two are particularly good in defending. That's for sure one of the reasons our defense get's exposed so easily.
 
While won 2 titles in a row with Gavi being a complete non entity.

11 point lead includes those games he was best player on park when Pedri, Raph missing and Yamal not fully fit.

Or when he comes on at HT when Barca losing to likes of Oviedo and best player on park as Barca come back to win.

Top player.

Extended lead when Pedri out. When Bernal out. When Gavi out. Frenkie out.

Dumb yank thinks Casado is better than Frenkie. Eric better than Frenkie and Gavi 'more important' than Pedri.

You can't deny he is a top notch footballer. Anyone who does at this point is clearly agenda driven

I hope he is one of those players who age well, because we probably won't have any money to spend in midfield too. And I don't know how many really talented central midfielders there are right now. Somehow I get the feeling 90℅ of la masia talent right now is in AM position, not sure why is that. But those are players we can maybe move to a deeper role if it seems fitting

Frenkie and Pedri for now are a fantastic duo. I don't buy the physical midfielder thing. Sometimes all you really need is a pair of football maestros. And ideally a 3rd partner they both know well, which I hope next season can be Gavi.
