2 - João Cancelo

He rejected Inter in January when there was a loan deal even reported to be done, as he was waiting on Barça - same would happen in a transfer. It's clear what the player's desire has always been. Player also has leverage since he was deemed surplus to needs by Inzaghi and were going to even let him go for free prior to the loan

They will negotiate but final number will end up between 4-8M in all likelihood, a bargain in any case
Exactly, and it's really a no brainer to sign him up for at least a 2 year contract. I've been a Cule for 30 years, die hard one - but Cancelo is on another level, he just loves Barca so much that I think it's criminal not to sign him.

How do you know this? I just thought he just liked Barca because he had a better time here.
Didnt know he was a die hard cule.

Problem with Cancelo is that he isn't reliable in the biggest games. He rarely influences those.
For most part he is great but we need a more reliable starter in CL knockouts.

All of this always needs to be compared to several factors

1) What are our options in the current squad?
2) Who is available on the market?
3) Of those available, who can offer something better in terms of quality and longevity and still be attainable realistically?

Sure, Cancelo is no Alves or Roberto Carlos, but he is excellent compared to who we have and the alternatives, especially for the rumored price(s).

He's 3 tiers above Balde so keeping him is nobrainer. Balde is not better defender than him like some people likely believe, so there's only pros to him staying.

Cancelo is currently better in Attack than Balde, Kounde, Eric and Martin.
Cancelo is currently better at defence than Balde & Kounde.

Spend 15m on Cancelo & Grimaldo, and we have instantly upgraded our attack 2 folds, while on a budget.

Its actually a no brainer, and if Deco deosnt go for it this summer again, pitchforks should be coming out.

I won't mind Cancelo but I meant we should also be on the look for another LB. Rumours are that we won't be able to spend much money next summer so at the very least a younger prospect would be nice since Balde decided not to learn anything new. Or we go for Grimaldo when he is free but he is not the long term solution either.

@Messi983 i see you love to make laugh smileys on my cancelo posts but you cant ignore the fact he has been much much better than Balde and Kounde last season :fdj:

Grimaldo and Cancelo for LB would be alright imo, sell or loan Balde.

He's a great footballer, technically gifted to play for Barça. Of course there are a few better, more balanced fullbacks out there, but they play already for big clubs so no way to get them for a decent price. Imo Cancelo offers great value for money.

+ he really loves Barça. Deco should do everything he can to sign him back.

Great bicycle golazo in the 2nd half vs DR Congo today, but offsides.

Probably the most vertical player on the Portugal team in the 1st half, moving the ball forward if there was any decent option. Good defensive performance as well.

Super pass from Cancelo, Hansi took him on a new level
He was always good. Flick created a system at Barca where his offensive talent could shine. Xavi's Barca was very static. Portugal's first game actually looked more Xavi like— passing around the back and down the wings with no threat in the middle. Fortunately, Martinez got rid of that today.
