He publicly complained about his playing time and now this. Right now, it doesn't look like he'll stay with us next season. Club will probably also be content to sell him with a good profit for the ffp, as they got him very cheap for €2.5m.

edit: I understand his frustration, but he shouldn't have complained publicly. I imagine Flick didn't take it that well. If you have a problem with him, do it private. He certainly didn't increase his playing time with this. And his bad luck is being a sub to Lamine. He's fit, young and the best player in the world. What coach will bench him if not absolutely needed?

He probably has some regrets about signing for us this season.

But hopefully things get better next season

Always feel bad for these enthusiastic youngsters joining only to be disappointed with lack of playing time.

We don't know what happens at training but under normal circumstances he should have played more. Even with Lamine on the field.

Solid and reliable. Don't sell players that are actually performing well, when on. Get rid of trashfords, koundes and other clumsy dunderheads with exorbitant undeserved wages. This guy is best we can get as relief for Yamal.

He actually asserts himself well and that without any playing time, while our "talented" guys just play rondos until make unforced error and concede a counter.

It shouldn't be up to him at the age of 18
I think that's the conventional wisdom, for sure but we're talking about an unprecedented youth talent. If Leo was healthy at same time/age rather than often getting muscular injuries, he would likely have lobbied hard to not be substituted were it not for the fact he had a veteran still ahead of him with Giuly or Larsson. Messi played 1872 minutes that season when he was 18 and it was effectively his first with the 1st team whereas Lamine is in his 3rd season - imagine telling Messi under Pep in his 3rd season to sit?

I agree he needs to rest more but I said this even when he was 15/16, who is going to be able to manage his minutes since it is unchartered territory to play a kid this much - there simply is no precedent for the load this has on a growing body. More so when frankly there is not yet a credible backup to rotate with him. I too have liked Roony (until he complained to the media about his minutes) but even when he has played we are often left waiting for Yamal to come on to replace him. In Bardhji's case, I think he is more of a SS than a RW and we'll see if Flick adjusts tactically to get best use out of him from here on out. Either way, kid will be loaned/sold this summer I'm certain

As for Lamine, if Nomoko were not injured he would've been an interesting rotating player to get minutes under Flick but I think a Masia kid would make most sense here vs going into market to add depth. Of course, if Bernardo is a legitimate target then I could see him alleviating that burden of minutes. It still won't address the question of whether Lamine will be content to regularly see his minutes managed. Perhaps now that he has been injured, similar to Leo at 18 with his hamstring, perhaps he will be more open to letting staff be more judicious with his playing time

Of course load management is something Flick and his staff have often cited as a priority for them so I don't buy the argument that his injury is a function of poor management...doesn't help which is why depth is always important. However, we never did get a player to rotate with Messi and I think most should accept that Lamine is always going to play the bulk of the minutes until he cannot

You are using Messi as an example, but it isn't like it wasn't one of our worst mistakes that we made this habit of allowing him to make such decisions. At 25 Messi has adjusted his game into a guy walking who only run at spurts, at the time it was acceptable, in football now it is a liability. At least he had 3 CL by then, Lamine might not get there.

And Messi got injured enough early on to use it as his own rest. Add that to the fact that Messi was entirely different beast, not by how good he was early on, but with his style. Messi style was by avoiding contact and touches, plenty of players have spoken about how fouling him was equally difficult to disposing him, while Lamine style is just like Neymar and Ronaldinho, it invites tackles and fouls. In a league that literally has no intention to protect him by fair refereeing.

Roony was a viable backup this season, Rashford was viable backup to Raphinha and could have allowed the Brazilian to move to RW sometimes, it barely happened. Rashford himself is capable of playing RW, and we never do it.

And atm, I've no reason to trust that the medical and training staff doing the right things with him, we have a long history of young players suffering too many injuries to not be legitimately worried. They claimed last year that Pedri needed extra load, and are repeating it this season while he is clearly suffering.

This is simply a bad rotation, while simultaneously installing bad habit in a young player, on the expense of his teammate.

Sure, Roony will be loaned or sold, but I won't get my hopes up about a La Masia backup, that sound like wishful thinking. Flick has given the opportunity to essentially only 3 players from the reserve team, Martin, Bernal & Casado, two of those were older prospects, the other was a physical demon for his position, all in his 1st year only.
Nomoko will be a young guy coming out of ACL midseason to join our likely 4th division B side, I won't get my hopes high. Even the guy Flick was obsessed with has left because he wanted more minutes.

imagine telling Messi under Pep in his 3rd season to sit?

Why imagine, though?

On his 3rd year, Messi started only 5 out of 9 CdR games, sitting completely in 2 of them. He played less than 65% of CdR minutes.
This season, Lamine played 100% of the CdR minutes.
Same pattern with using Joan in all games he was available, zero rest or giving Tek the CdR.

I don't think you realise how allergic Flick himself to rotations, and you are just assuming it is all Lamine. Of coarse, he won't say no to play games, but Flick is more than enabler in such case. It is just his mentality of going all in all the time, expecting unhuman things from his players and failing to realize the difference in load between Bundesliga and La Liga.

You can't expect an 18-year old kid to limit his minutes by himself, he shouldn't have that power. A 60 year old coach on the other hand...

Selling or loaning out Roony will be a grave mistake.

He has already shown he has the talent to be a reliable Backup for Yamal. This is Yamal we are talking. It will be hard to find a backup for him, at best it will be off Roony's level.
Why waste money? When we have other positions to figure out.
If Roony is unhappy with his playing time and is adamant for a sale or loan, then it's different. But we shouldn't go out of our way to take him ou of this team.

And its Flick's fault, he hasnt played Roony when there were clearly games he could have played him.
