16 - Rodri

A huge signing on paper.
A huge gamble in reality.
I wouldn't call it a huge gamble. It's a gamble yes, but the WC shut down many fears of him not reaching his top level again. Or that he can't play every three days anymore. Being 30 years old in DM position is nothing to be concerned about, as speed is not the most important attribute needed there and you can play on a very high level easily until 35-36.

He will immediately strenghen our starting lineup like no other player, except maybe Kane or Haaland. We get a natural leader and captain, who is familiar with our playstyle and players to complete the Euro and WC winners midfield. A player who was formed by Pep into a Busquets copy and Ballon D'Or winner.

There is literally no better fit and that's why the club decided to take up the gamble. In normal circumstances, you don't get players like that anymore from Sheikhclubs. The salty comments from many Shitty fans wanting him to stay this season, even if it means losing him for free, tells you how much they value his input.

If there is a gamble worth taking this summer, it is this over all others.

Yes. I have the same fears.
He is 30, he had ACL not too long ago.

I think his time here will probably look like:
1. One more ACL and 10 matches per season played
2. A lot of smaller injuries due to not playing for 1 year, being 30 and playing too many matches for City in EPL for several years in a row (similar to how Arda Turan was done after coming from Atletico).

Let's hope that he will stay injury free but I don't think that we are getting a player who will play 30-50 matches per year.

A huge signing on paper.
A huge gamble in reality.
There was a time you though Kvaratskhelia was a player with beta mentality, a choker who wouldn't make it at the highest level.

Years later dude is a back to back UCL winner and player of the tournament.

I take your "opinions" with a truckload of salt

He's probably the most important signing we've made since last winning the CL.

And brings us much closer to achieving that goal.

Trying to score a goal in a game that's already won.

Rodri "you better get the fuck outta here with that bullshit".

Should have happened years ago. Bu instead we fell for FDJ.
It's always easy to be smart in hindsight. When both were on the market back in 2019, the vast majority prefered Frenkie over Rodri. I also doubt Rodri would have stayed in Barca during all the humiliating EL seasons. Also Pep was a big, if not the biggest reason Rodri became the player he is today.

How fit he is currently? I assume he has been training for a while now? Wondering when he might be able to play.

From Villarreal to atleti and atleti to city.

No excuses bar barto incompetence we weren't at least seriously interested in him.

But according to Barto players don't like competition.

While city was out there building a squad of 2 starting XI and when we signed for City he already had an established starter ahead of him.

Let's hope he plays and won't be injured all the time. I have a bad feeling about that. Could be the reason why City was willing to sell. They might already know that he is done. I am also not a fan of signing players who have already achieved everything that matters. And he is even 30 years old.

City didn't want to sell him. If they could, they would've kept him this season and allow him to leave on a free next season+ a new contract was still on the table.

Nearly 600k likes after 17 hours on the football influencer's account. Bodied the ratio of every Madrid transfer this window :boss: .

No, he wasn't training. City announced him recovering until late of August when he had his smaller back surgery after the WC. So expect him to be available from September onwards.

After watching Bernal this pre-season, I'm certainly glad we got Rodri, especially FDJ being out for god knows how long.

If the idea is to mold Bernal into a DM in the vein of Busi/Rodri he definitely needs a lot more time in the oven for that. I have confidence in the kid but you can tell he has a ways to go still.
Not only that.

Let's be real. FDJ is a lot, but not a real DM. Should notice the difference once Rodri gets to play.

Holly shit it happened
