I think there is a world where Fermin moves to the SS/LW hybrid role before long.

He cannot control games very well in the AM. But what he can do is all things we would need from that LW spot. Press/score goals/assist/versatility. Now I agree he hasn't exactly cut it in the LW role yet as far as G/A but if he does move there we can then think about moving Yamal more inside to a free 10 role where he can truly let his creativity free.

That would mean we need a RW though. This is all post Raphinha or without Raphinha.

I don't think he has the tools to play LW permanently.

He's a perfect AM, English style good timing of the run to score goals.

But we do lose some control with him.

I guess all players have their strengths & weaknesses

Off the ball game is overlooked and yet consists of most of the time on the pitch.
Our style depends on high press and Fermin is probably our top asset after Raphinha in that aspect.

I stand by selling this guy to the EPL for 100m of possible. This guy is great at all the things the EPL values.

This money can go towards revamping multiple positions. Could straight up finance the entire defense. Buy Cancelo/Grimaldo/Bastoni or get pretty close to covering them

His flaw is that he is precipitated. He can slam one in with pace, but you could see the way he approached that header, he does not have a cool head.

It doesn't matter much if it was a follow through or not. What matters is that Fermin went with the head too low there. If Muso raises his leg and hits him in the face high, it's a pen. Here, no.

If Musso kicked him in the head without kicking the ball first, agreed.

Ball is in play. If he kicks him in the head by moving his foot towards his head it's a pen and potentially a red. But it is Fermin who puts his head low after heading the ball. It's more like he slammed his head in the guy's boot than the other way around.

So, no pen. Quite easy.

But there were 4 very important decisions by the refs and all were made for AM in the tie. Probably unlucky coincidence. You can easily call pen for Olmo incident, and the hand ball in the first leg is stupid, but should have been given. You can add the refs decisions to the factors that tilted the tie in favor of AM, quite easily.

This doesn't excuse the stupid things we did, but the refs should not play such an important role with VAR.

Musso kicked the ball. His follow through kicked Fermín in the face. No penalty
In modern football, you can be penalised for not being in control after winning the ball or making a tackle. There have been challenges penalised for wining the ball and then catching the man with force after the initial contact. It's a bit of a grey area.

I can see why it wasn't given.
