14 - Marcus Rashford

I think it's telling enough that this guy peaked in september when he scored those two goals against Newcastle. I wouldn't say he has been bad but he is far from someone is a must sign. He is not someone who I would pay 10M+ a season.

We gave it a shot. It didn't work, his laziness and self sufficiency will never be trained out of him. Return to sender and all is fine.

Don't know if I'd call it lazyness, seems like something of a different nature, but yes for some reason he just can't put in the work.

Offensively everything he does has a foredoomed sense about it. Might get past the first player but you kind of know it's not going to result in anything.

Suspect it's some kind of mental issue keeping him from unlocking that flow state. But maybe he's just not that good.

Narrative in the media is being created that he is not good enough to keep. Knowing the club and how they operate and use Catalan media to do their dirty work I think it's easy to predict what comes next.

He’s on borrowed time and his efforts are minimal.

Don’t see why we’d invest to keep.

He doesn't fit in barca's football. Even if he's capable to score a banger every now and then, overall he lacks too many important standard skills like pressing and passing. He also doesn't complement with Rapha well, since Rapha does everything better.

For me it's an open secret since many weeks already, that the club won't sign him. Maximum what Deco will offer is another loan, which United will refuse.

Its not a narrative. We can all see why they call him Trashford.

I more or less am coming to not so dissimilar a conclusion

I think in terms of his production, particularly in terms of the minutes he's had its been a tremendous success to bring him in on loan. 30M is not exorbitant but does he bring enough for what we will need were he to get more minutes? I am not fully convinced

He has been productive with 22 G/A so far which is 4th in the squad and efficient even in terms of his minutes but his defensive numbers are the weakest compared to all of the attacking players in the squad. He'll be 29 to start next season, so if Deco et al can reduce that 30M buyout clause then I would be more a proponent of it

His best qualities are clear and more so in that they are aspects we just don't have in the squad but we lose a lot defensively

His wages are the real problem. 30m fee for Rashford is even cheap I'd argue and there will be dozens of teams willing to buy him out for that fee, but he earns around 17m.
According to Capology, he's 7th in the squad just behind MAtS, in front of Olmo, Pedri, Fermin, Eric and more. He would crash our newly and more or less soon healthy (without MAtS and Lewy) wage system. The agents of these players would call Deco the next day and demand a higher salary for their players, since they're more important to the team.

He's simply not good enough to earn more than these players. He'd have to reduce his salary to the level of Torres/Gavi maybe aroundm 11-13m not to crash the system, but he'll never agree to it obviously.

Well, presumably his wages would have to be reduced even beyond the reported 20-30% reduction he agreed to for the loan

I think the issue won't be just his wages/fee but player's desire. I do think overall we are not getting great return on value, even for a free loan, due to his wages & age but surely he would agree to fit into our wage structure if the 30M was negotiated down to 20-25M

Could be negotiating tactics from Deco et al to get a deal discounted from ManYoo but agree he's more a luxury buy than need. I also think he's similar in stature and production to Ferran who is paid far less and also a player who is more out than in going forward. So, as much as I like Rashford (Which I do), I think there are better options overall for LW...plus, La Masia is going to produce depth there

La Masia hasn't produced a goal scoring winger who is willing to play off the ball since Pedro.

Maybe someone like Juan Hernandez or Kluivert make a breakthrough, but it is a bit irresponsible to be betting on that for first team.

Last year experience with Fati & Victor was awful. Add that to the fact that Flick is allergic to rotations, and we seriously need someone that Flick actually trusts.

The allergic to rotations is one of the reason rashford didn't do even better than he did imo.

Times he should have been used, but flick is truly terrible at squad utilization,. something I and others have been saying since last season.

Raphinha is the starter at LW, quality depth is needed as evidenced by Rashford's production this season so far. For 30M can we get better return on investment (including wages and age)? Probably (Bisiwu, Munoz, Moleiro and several others have been linked). From there, I absolutely believe someone from La Masia will get a chance to platoon

Nomoko was having a breakout season earlier in the year, albeit on RW but traditionally our wingers can play on either flank. Same for Diarra and Toni. Lu Martinez who has been making waves can never be ruled out considering the jump many have been making. I still think if Nomoko recovers well, he has bonafide star potential

But in any event, I think it likely means as useful as Rashford has been it is unlikely we'll continue with him

All things considered (price, salary, budget for reinforcements) I don't think the club will extend his stay by buying him. I doubt there is a chance for another loan so maybe it is time to thank him for his contribution.

I'd say he was a success the same way Joao Felix was. He contributed and helped the team, but he didn’t take the opportunity to make the club think they can't afford to not buy him.

All in all the club is doing a good job with these high quality loans. Of course this has something to do with the financial situation, but there were times when the club spent tons of money for a player that was good but not worth the money involved because he wasn't the right fit for the team.
