13 - Joan Garcia

Yes, we know he played with Messi.

Ah so its on Messi to win or lose then.. yet when they lose everyone else gets the blame but when win its on Messi.

Top stuff.

The best of those seasons when won best player in Spain wasnt with Messi but we wont let that get in the way.

Garcia will get to play with Yamal and many others also.

World class LaLiga season.

Been disappointed a tad that he didn't have any of those CL nights we had hoped for (one of those Courtois/Oblak/Donna nights and we are in the Semi).

But the trajectory is there and everything is pointing to world class.

Donnaruma is over rated.

Another fuck up from him chucked the game last night and he has had countless ropey seasons in CL.. again poor this season.

As for being 25.. Neuer was the same age when moved to Bayern. Ederson 24 when moved to City. Alison older when moved to Liverpool. Martinez moved to Villa at near on 28. Courtois to Real at 25.. albeit good career prior.

Its not unusual for some of the top GKs to move and hit heights in mid 20s.

Joan Garcia is already up there with the best GKs in the world.

I think he's world class already. He is one of those players where you notice the quality, even if he is playing better or worse on a certain day.

Just has the composure and awareness of a really, really top goalkeeper, and also doesn't have any weaknesses.

In my view he has the potential to be the best GK in the world and isn't that far off already.

Donnarumma is 27 and he's been around since like forever.

Garcia is a good GK, but won't make the "all time great" bracket.
GK is the oldest position and the prime of players can even be after 30 or older. Not to say that 25 is old anyway even for outfielders or wingers, for example, but for GK it is young.

Most goalies start making their name later in their career so don't think its that unusual, at 25 barring injuries he could have 8 or 9 years left at the top level, so his career at the top has really just begun.

He has mental resilience,

Even if he messes up, he’ll shake it off and regain his focus. A level of stoicism that will give him an edge over many others.

Yes, but the all time greats were great from the get go. At 25 most of them were already well known or were playing regularly for big clubs.

Neuer.. moved to Bayern at 25 and and is probably the best GK of all time.
Courtois.. moved to Real at 25 albeit had good career prior.
Martinez moved to Villa at 28 and was a 3rd choice at Arsenal older than Garcia is now.
Alison moved to Liverpool older than Garcia.

Recent examples of some of the top names.

Joan Garcia was the best GK in La Liga the past two seasons at 23 and 24 and has won a title.

He is superb but next season he gotta do better in the CL.

Not that he did bad this season. There was actually nothing he could do on most goals he conceded. But we expect the same outrageous level of La Liga in knockout stages where it counts 10x. If you look at cl winners these past years I think that most of them had their keeper dropping a world class performance in one of the k/o games

He's got everything except experience, so far only 69 La Liga games.

It would be great if he could get ahead of Simon for Spain at WC and gain some knockout stage experience but I think DLF is set on Simon at this point. He made his debut in CL this season and was pretty average so I expect more of him next season.
However in La Liga he's been as good as the best GKs we've had in the club the last 10-15 years.

He needs a better backup. Tek for now will do.

Summer 2027, we need to get a good backup. Preferably a taller player, closer to 2 m tall.

There is the Remiro rumors for a reason.

Best thing that happened to us is the loans. This year Inaki Pena and Yakoob both lost their starting positions at Elche and Andorra. Had they stayed they would still be dreaming of being first choice or backup.
