Neither will play much, but if push comes to shove and we have to play Garcia at CB we still have a back up on the bench.

If Kounde gets into some kind of form and Rodri comes Cuba Eric is the best possible duo. There is a lot of alternatives like Cuba Eric/Gerard/Cortes/Christensen but none at elite level.
 
Cuba, Martin and Eric are the main trio in CB, Christensen is the 4th option wild card due to health. .

The catch is Eric turning into almost exclusively CB. Rodri takes away his CDM minutes, but we need someone to take his RB minutes. We will need one of Espert or Fort to step up.
 
I expect nothing from Christensen, firstly he will most likely be for for 10% of games, and secondly he became really overrated on this forum, like him getting to full fitness would make him our best defender, the last time he was fit for the whole season was 4 years ago. Don't think he will ever hit those heights again even if back to full fitness.

If reports are true Flick likes Espart better and told Fort to look for chances elsewhere.

Think anything we squeeze out of Christensen at this point is a bonus. Shouldn’t be counted on. But we’re going with Pau and Martin, there will always be options to rest. That was never the major issue.
 
To folks who has seen Cortes more, how quick is the guy??

The only two games I saw, I couldnt make out any of that sort.

He was not outrun he started running too late.. He didn't even see the player until he was ahead of him, very bad awareness from Cortes

I hope it's a one off mistake and he's not this bad positionally on regular

Liked his ball playing a lot. But of course expected from La Masia CB. What we need is some defending

Yip. This is what I was looking to see. He isnt quick or fast.
But guy is otherwise very solid. He would have been the perfect backup in a Hansi system if we had a quicker starter.

Wouldn't blame the goal solely on him, as he's young and still learning the Hansi way, and this was a pre season game.
But he was way too slow to react, and he was losing pace agaisnt the attacker. lol.
 
I don't see the light in this guy yet, albeit with a super small sample size - Martin seems like a WC veteran in comparison, but Flick knows what he wants and if he trusts him, he should be given the benefit of the doubt.

He feels like an old school central defender, not sure he's right fit for Flick at Barça - we'll see

Loan or sale with buyback is always the move. Never seen it with Corty and preferred both Campos and Pacifico last term.

Still, loan and learn, even to Segunda isn't the worst move. Time is on the lads side
 
Cortes played like a Segunda player. What are we talking about. We should be moving for a top CB pronto.

Cubarsi, starter, Martin, Eric, Christensen as a deep option is sufficient. We need a starting CB as much as a 9.

Whatever the plan is and what some people think Martin is not a CL winning starting CB. Rodri if signed and back to elite consistently solves half the mess, but still leaves gaps Spain did not have in their team.

We neeed starting CB and improvements from Flick on collective level to really compete with PSG.
 
We are really playing with fire in the CB core. One too many wildcards/gambles.

You can have one or two of those per position, but we are setting up the defense in a way where we are forced to rely on multiple gambles, whilst not having any reliable/known guarantees.

Cortes and Christensen are total unknowns. Christensen has practically not played a game in 2 years, and Cortes is a newbie from the B team who isn't clearly first-team level. Martin is good enough to be part of the rotation, but we have no proven senior options.
