Flick has done a great job overall but defense has been on a downfall since he arrived. I can see no reason why the team just doesn't fall back to defensive position and remains pushing up top against the likes of Atletico. This has been a recurring pattern and no other top team defends like this.
Just apply initial press and fall back like a normal team, we aren't that special to play like this.

Elche vs us. We got all the space in the world because Elche played like we do. We used this space because we have the players. We could have won 10:2. The same thing happens to us every single time when playing bigger teams with good players. Flick doesnt see this. He plays the same tactics and prays to God that he will save his ass. Why not falling Back 20-30 meters in general and then go pressing? When you loose the midfield battle you dont have the risk of being exposed again and again and making our defenders responsible for covering 2500 square meters of open space. No one says we should play a defensive block waiting for the counter. Just use some brains. This "coach" is a joke all over the place.

It's a problematic season with some injuries to key players and, due to the thin squad, poor replacements. Some players who were good last season did not keep their level this season. Flick tactics make things worse in this aspect, but it is what it is.

The physicality of the team took a hit after a very long and difficult season. It's a big challenge to play the way Flick wants fighting on all fronts two seasons in a row vs teams blowing us away on transfer market.

Ton of factors involved but also games like last night Barca are going into the game showing their hand and when the opposition are on it and tactically well set up it can collapse.

Teams have 100% stopped trying the early ball through as much and attacking the space left out wide when Balde/Kounde go narrow and high as instructed.

Try to break offside trap out wide with runners from there and more space/disrupted line when Kounde/Balde have to pull away from that narrow line and engage.

Atleti did it time and again.

If Barca cant keep ball in any meaningful way teams get too many chances to test it.

Ateltico were just retreating. Waiting for Barca to flow players forward and set the high line and then exposing it as soon as got ball back.

We truly need better individual defenders, but there is NO WAY we can win CL with this type of defending, I am willing to bet my house on that. We can win over the span of 38 games but not competition like CL. Yesterday game is exactly that, we can get hammered hard on the day, in the league we have struggling RM and yet only point behind, we play one bad game and we can get 4 goals in 45 minutes. It was even funny, yesterday they tried offside trap in their half, do they even know the rules?
I don't even see the value of that type of defending, we would still control the ball mostly and we can initiate counter attack if both teams are in their half, actually we have Raph and Yamal that could be deadly on counter in my opinion. Also, ok, we play like that, but is it impossible to do some adjustments now and then?

One more reason to adapt the style and using alternative approach. Flick came here and imposed his will on the team come what may. This ist amateurish, stubborn "I am right" behavior. The same thing he did when coaching Germany. I watched all the matches, I am German and I saw his Interviews claiming we just have to do it better and it's s the right way to play...blabla. Never saying that it's up to his shit tactics why all this is happening. It's never his fault, always the players fault. Childish and not professional. We had an extra long summer break. It' s not up to fatigue. If so we would have all the problems in the second half. We suffer and struggle from minute one. Stupid tactics...nothing else.

So what? At the end of the day, you take the good, the bad, and decide if it's the best you can go with under current conditions. And like others said, in these times, we really don't have any better options than Flick.

Xavi played a more boring defensive variant of possession football, to tackle the same issues Flick deals with. What did it do for us in the big games? Nothing, when a squad is not great, thin, and you deal with injuries and everything, you'll find that, at the big level, no matter how much you stretch the blanket to cover you and stay warm, it is just too short. You're gonna be cold anyway until you get a bigger blanket.

Yea all the glaze after elche was a false flag, as I said in the yamal and Pedri trend.
