10 - Lamine Yamal

Shut down but still pretty much the only one capable of making a pass into penalty area. Our very few chances came from his ball into Kounde who crossed. That is not much to go on but we had far more useless players on the pitch today.

Evidently this season is nothing like his last season

I don't know if it is pubalgia, complacency, opponents having studied him, or what

But it needs to change soon

Every team knows now put two to four defenders on him and his teammates will leave him to die.

Easier than beating our offline with some water.

Nothing will change until we have a board and coach who appreciates tech over P&P. Yamal's only hope is to plead with them to change ways or look for an exit soon.

Some over reactions on here..

Even Messi had far more poor games than folk would think looking back.
Not so many actually. You can revisit all Messi games since his teens and find out he barely had a bad game, even against prime atletico. Especially not this bad of a game. He could be absent in his worst, but not this level of bad.

But back to the point, kid is still 18 and depending so much on him is not correct. Team was trash all over the place. Tactics were obviously wrong againnst a big oponent again, so I wouldn't focus so much on Yamal.

Well, every young players needs to go through these phases:

1) at first the opponents don't know him too well and don't take him too seriously so he might look even better than he is due to too much space.

2) over time, the opponents figure out his main moves, mark him more tightly and are able to neutralize him.

3) a young player needs to readjust his game and add more tricks, unpredictability and smart moves into his game to neutralize the stage number 2.

Yamal is currently in the stage 2.
He plays the same as when he was in a stage number 1.

Imo, in CL knockout matches, there is a high chance that he will be neutralized more and more often just like against Psg and Atletico.

Big boys have learned his moves and are marking him more tightly.

I know, I know, we played without Pedri and Raph.
But that's life.
Pedri is often injured.
Raph will be more and more injured as he gets near 30.

So we will often play without Olmo, Pedri, Raph and soon without Lewa.

Yamal will need to be ready to often play without some of them.

But the times have changed.

18 today is like 23 from 2010'.

Wingers play from the age of 16-17 today due to needs of 433 and 4231 formation.

So, we shouldn't compare him to 18 year olds from 2010'.

With today's social media, burnout and complacency, Yamal will be finished by the age of 26.

So, forget about him being 18.

Agreed.

His issue again, like against Chealea, was the marking up high. The simple response he could be making, instead of trying to dribble with 2 people stuck on him like leaches before even he receives a pass, is to make runs behind. For a teenager, the ammount of running behind he does is zero. He want's to always be a playmaker but he is still a winger, and this hurts his game a lot. If he did make regular runs, they would be more hesitant to mark him thos close to our side of the pitch.

I agree with BBZ. Whether he leaves a lasting mark on Barça’s history will largely depend on his ability to move beyond his current set of tricks and significantly diversify his playing style, much like the evolution of Messi. He certainly has the talent, but the real question is whether he has the determination to do so

We probably thought we have AM's number, we beat them 3-1 not much issues this season, beat them last season twice on their home ground... we thought it's gonna be just a normal game.

But it wasn't, they have the ability to elevate their game like this out of the blue almost, and it was a blowout. And the bad part is that this is what is gonna expect us even if we get lucky and draw Newcastle in CL.

We simply didn't show up for a game on Metropolitano vs a fired up AM. We knew Madrid conceded 5 there, and we were mauled as well.

Also drew with them at home last season and lost at home.

Against Atletico in league this season they missed chances and a sitter to equalise late on.

Would hope no one thought had their number.
