I really don't believe we can't sell him for some solid money

For a side fighting for league position only and not CL, he will probably be class

Even for us he had very good spells in the league. But it's on the big stage that he chokes

Even if you dislike him it's only positive thing for us if he ends up playing well. Maybe then some team wants him that can actually pay his salary.

Clubs who buy players always look for the total cost. Salary + fee. The higher the salary, the smaller the fee they're willing to pay. MAtS is earning too much for teams to pay an additional fee. Also he'll be 34 in 3 months and has a history of complicated injuries. That's not a combination teams will be willing to pay for, no matter how good he performs now at Girona.
Our only hope is that he plays good enough to find teams taking him for free and freeing the club from his salary.

Even if someone would offer him the same wage as he has in Barca (no one will), why do you think he would accept it? It's clear living in Barcelona means a lot to him so he can just stay, live in BCN, get his salary from Barca and play at Girona until 2028. Thank you Deco!

Who says he wants to go? He lives in sunny Barca, settled, in his home, speaks the language, with his kids nearby. Even if somehow Juve came and wanted him, after the WC is done, why would he go? To reach what with 35+?

He'll 99 % continue his loan at Girona with Barca paying his wages then retire at the end of his contract or lower his salary and continue playing there as a hobby while being semi-retired for lower wages which Girona can afford. That's the only thing that's going to happen.

Yeah i also think so but it has nothing to do with deco. If he says he doesn't care whether he plays or not, he just wants to live in Catalonia, the club can't do anything except save 10% of his salary with Girona. Sure, they could (for the price of €1.5 million) put him on the bench or in the stands with us, but that wouldn't change his decision because it doesn't matter to him. The club is obviously at fault for giving him such a contract, but they were deceived by his world-class performance in Xavi's La Liga championship season and were forced to stretch his salary from 2023-2026 to 2028. What Mats is earning now isn't his entire salary this year, but rather his salary plus parts of the salary from 2020-2025. Many people forget that.

The only better option would be to keep him with us on the bench rather than loaning him to Girona for small salary savings, if we plan to use him as a backup goalkeeper after Szczesny's career ends, because it would probably be more expensive than the 1.5 million saved if we signed a new goalkeeper and paid his salary.

Deco had leverage to at least try get him out so he'd play at WC but they didn't even try. At least don't make him favors after he did what he did against the club in the summer but the cucks still made it possible for him to have it all. Thank you Deco!
