Yes, that is the new rule already in place since 2018 when Modric robbed Salah

But in 2019 they suddenly forgot about it to give it to Messi instead of VVD who was the most key player in the best team

Yean, but as said, it's Messi. Messi and Ronaldo each snatched 1-2 they didn't quite earned in full.

Key player when PSG was barely making 24 in CL and had to scrape a comeback against that dreadful City side

Well that's not much of an achievement
Rewatch those matches. PSG was incredibly unlucky in many of them. It happens. Rewatch that match against Atlético. Atlético was crushed.

By the way, we had the easiest path in the Champions League. What a formidable force we faced in the Champions League. Only against Bayern in the group stage.

Even Inter, in my opinion, wasn't a formidable force, as we saw in the final. But we still managed to lose to them. And it wasn't just the result; we conceded a monstrous number of chances in front of our goal.

Well CL semis is where ballon dor contenders are usually shaped

Yamal wasn't main contender but everybody knew if we win CL it will be close between him Rapha and maybe Pedri. And his performances were considerd good over the course of entir season
Generally but being the best player in a semifinal loss against a team that gets smashed 5-0 in the final isn't that remarkable in itself.

If Barca had gotten a tough run to the semis and Yamal had delivered top performances against the best teams en route, I think he'd have a stronger case, but he wasn't Barca's best player in the league and being the best player on a Benfica-Dortmund-Inter run to the semis probably isn't enough.

You are talking collective again. This is supposed to be an individual award. I don't know why collective factors are considered more than individual

Explain?

Yamal was most definitely not the reason, if rest of the team was on his level we'd crush Inter 15-0
I'm not saying Yamal was the reason. But his poor play without the ball was one of the reasons, for example, why Inter often easily broke our pressing. He was also quite lazy in returning back during Inter's positional attacks.

PSG wouldn't have been as successful collectively if Dembélé had played like Lamine Yamal off the ball.

Is that enough?

You're welcome
for peeps that need more context for dembele’s win:

Go back to that Luis Enrique Mbappe video, where Enrique asks Mbappe to lead by example. Then understand Mbappe refused to do it, but Dembele didn’t.

If he'd have held onto the ball in that last minute instead of shooting, Barca might be European champions right now.

But he was a 17 year old kid and nothing to blame there. He will learn. Just saying it's not like he didn't make mistakes.

he or Dembele is a worthy winner.
