9 - Robert Lewandowski

But they find the chances also that is a huge part of it.
True, that's a skill. I just take issue with people calling them clinical finishers. They're not - they just have a knack of getting many chances.

Messi on the other hand IS clinical. The end result is the same but he's much more efficient.

Messi is an alien.

Lewa is clinical in the box. Every striker misses chances. The top ones do that less and also score a lot.

Which is why it's laughable when people imply this clown should have won the 2021 BD over him. Goes to show how unfairly popular he is. Anyone who thinks Robert Lewandowski should ever win a football award over Lionel Messi - or that Messi somehow 'robbed him' - should immediately cease watching football. Messi is 20 times more talented and far far better in general play.

He's clinical to a point. He misses more often than someone I would describe as 'clinical', even in the box.

It's not just Messi anyway - Pele, Muller, R9, Van Basten, Romario were all better finishers too. That's my benchmark for clinical.

Any player who was not considered a club legend but was main scorer of the team in 2 league titles? Don't think so personally.

If European Cup is the main metric we would only have legends from Ronaldinho era forward mainly. Nobody from 1992 backwards for sure.

Main scorer doesnt mean more than players who were more important. Or there is a huge list of legends.

Cant think of one legend at Barca at CF that has done as little v Real domestically or in Europe as Lewa.

The issue with that is that the CL is now the holy grail, and pre 1992 (not just for Barca, but all clubs) it wasn't treated as the pinnacle of club football.

It was also much harder to qualify for pre CL era.

You have to factor into account the mentality of the CL being the be all and end all now, which it was not in the 70s and 80s.

I like serghei but he cannot see beyond stats, often out of context.

It's still not treated as the be all and end all unless you play in Ligue 1 or some league where you get no competition to win.

Most fans at least judge absolutely everything by it.

It's always about how many CLs a team wins. It's given far more prestige than winning any league in Europe, with the exception of the PL. And that's only because there's so many EPL fanboys.

It always was the biggest, but it's not all the season, the league title in EPL and La Liga is big.

I know they are. But my point is that most fans (admittedly clueless, internet fans) see the CL as the biggest thing in club football by far.

In their eyes it's good to win La Liga if you're Barca or Real, but much much better to not win it and win the CL instead. I don't necessarily agree.

Only Madrid have this kind of obsession about CL, understandably because they are so good in that competition historically. For me, it is not particularly essential, unless you can get it and fail. The nastiest CL memories are failed semis, 2010, 2012, 2019, and 2025. Semis hurt the most. The rest I don't care much about. Most clubs treat it like that. There is no special CL preparation involved.

No that's not true. It isn't just Real Madrid fans.

Maybe I have spent too much time laughing at clueless modern internet fans, but they all seem obsessed with the CL no matter who they support.
