Kylian Mbappé

I see a player that is 23 years old already walking around 99% of the game and not helping his team defend or press at all what so ever.

He is a ghost most games, you don't even recognize him. He's like Cristiano after he turned 28-29. He's almost never involved. Then out of nowhere he uses his pace to do something. What I see is an absolute ton of pace and talent, which he stands around not using for 90% of the match. The most talented young player, mostly because of his pace, but he almost never uses it. Yawn.

It's honestly laughable how much hate he gets. For what, exactly?

Messi insults an opponent during an itv after a WC win: "What a massive Chad!!!!!" (yeah, granted, Dutch player had been cunts apparently, he still could have taken the high road)
Mbappe pouts after losing a WC final "he's so unlikeable! Despicable human being! Scumbag! Dogshit role model for our kids!!!!"

They're footballers. They're human. They're playing a sport watched by millions of people, with incredibly high stakes. And sometimes they have weird reactions, or they can come across as entitled. Which is particularly normal when you're a kid. And a lot of them are still kids.

Don't get me wrong, I don't particularly like him as a person (most of my friends actually call me a Mbappe hater, because even though I always rated him super high as a player he has disappointed me several times, outside of the pitch). I do think he often talk too much in the media, he does seem pretty arrogant (like 99% of football players) etc. But he's sooooooo far off from being the worst footballer out there, personality-wise. And yet, he's being treated as he was constantly being insulting to everyone. Any thing he says or does is interpreted the worse way possible. Like that dumb picture of him celebrating a penalty miss that might send his team to a WC semi-final. Somehow, a bunch of twats who never set foot on a football pitch went on a rant about him "fake laughing" (what the actual fuck ).

You guys can chill, it's fine. What were you guys doing when you were 23? Were you being super humble, perfect role models in every aspect of your life? And if so, were you also at the same time being one of the best in the world at your job?

If so, kudos. If not... maybe take a breath, put everything in context, and chill out? Or, you know, keep on hating, I don't think Mbappe gives two fucks about you. Just saying that for you, being filled with hate isn't really doing you much good.

Some of these posts look straight out of a parallel universe. Messi and Ronaldo were non-entities on the World Cup stage at his age, and it's not like they had bad teams around them. It took Messi until his fifth world cup to finally decide WC knockout stage games, something Mbappe has done at age 19.

Save for injury, he will surely go down as the greatest player in WC history and there is nothing anyone can do about it.

While folk will always look back to him in his prime v 35 year old Messi... who got the better of him.

Mbappe hasnt been the best player in a world cup yet.

Will need that and to win it at same time if he wants all time best WC player title.

Relax, almost everyone here agrees he is on all time great trajectory (he already is an all time great at NT level). Maybe he gets more vitriol than usual for being a CR7/RM fanboy, but mostly everyone here respects his game.

I can't stand when some fans come in & say others talk bad about him or make some proclamation about how great he is, like every well thinking reasonable football fan hasn't basically already crowned him the best player of his generation, since he was like 20.

Doesn't change the fact that his personality rubs some the wrong way.

A lot of young players are Ronaldo fan boys.... most lilkely because a lot of what he has done to be an all time great can be used as an example.

No one can teach/train/practise to Messi level of ability.

Young players in clubs are given players to model themselves on.. a lot of the time that is Ronaldo and they will study is game to try and improve.

It isnt the negative to Messi that is made out when young players have Ronaldo as their idol.

He outscored Messi and lost on penalties. I don't think anyone will remember this as someone getting the better of him.

If his trajectory continues and no other super national team apart from France emerges, he will surely get more chances.
Currently, by far the best attacker in the world. Perhaps Halland could have a say in this?

That wasn't my point at all. As I said, I get how he can "rub some the wrong way", since I don't particularly like him either. He has a lot of ambition, probably too much, which is not necessarily something that makes him likeable (it might be what he needs to win titles and be an all time great though, obviously). But there's a world between being "rubbed the wrong way" and some of the stuff you read here. Especially since a lot of posts are based on absolute nonsense (ie that Kane penalty miss thing). I don't think Mbappe ever said something insulting like "what X can do with a football, I can do with an orange" (like Ibrahimovic about Carew). I don't think he called an opponent an idiot in an interview (like Messi after the game against NL). I don't think he ever hit an opponent and said afterwards "I hit you because you're black/white/brown/yellow/purple" (like Suarez to Evra). I don't think he ever said "I started by reminding my coach that he never was a great footballer, only a good footballer" (like Eto'o to Guardiola). He did say dumb/arrogant stuff. He had some off the pitch antics. Not much more, not much less than a lot of other footballers. He's being watched A LOT more than most other footballers though, and anything he does even slightly wrong gets made into some big story because it generates contents and clicks.

But hey, again, I don't really give a shit, I'm not the one grinding my teeth fuming against someone who doesn't even know I exist.
