21 - Frenkie de Jong

It's tough to see him leaving really with just United with serious interest. United being in the Europa League is very likely to not just be a one-season thing either.

Over the next few years, they will have real difficulty securing CL football so you can't blame a man for not wanting to go there, even if he's being publicly smeared.

It's a shame there isn't a more appealing club in for him as he definitely doesn't deserve an unsavory exit.

Isn't there new coach suppose to be some kinda genius who can make Frankie look like a top 10 midfielder in the world?.

Who knows maybe they can make top 4.

United are not as weak a team as made out.

There is a lot for ETH to work with there but Liverpool and City are so far ahead of everyone and Pep/Klopp be there for years yet makes it difficult to win things.

If a top CL team came in, he'd be gone already imo. Barca might be his 'dream club' but this is more down to Frenkie not wanting to step down and I can't blame him for that. Hope he doesn't stay and fuck us even more with his wages, although we do kinda deserve it the way we treat players.

Fans won't turn on him though, many already blame Barto and now Laporta. Most cules want Frenkie to stay.

He will be scapegoated badly if he goes down 3, and rightfully so IMO.
He knows the fat contract he is sitting on was signed by the previous administration and Laporta is introducing a 10m net wage cup to all squad members.
He can't be having it his own way.
If he really loves the club and wants to stay, he can downgrade to Ansu's, Pedri's (and Dembele's after the renewal) money and show that he wants to stay above all.

Plus, he won't be playing a lot (like Dembele) if he goes down that way. He was always the first Xavi was subbing out last term from the md, he knows the team does not need him that much
You've been brainwashed by Laporta's politics.

It's easy to talk when it's not your money at stake.
Frenkie took a pay cut/deferred his salary because the club needed it. Now when it's time to pay the agreed, they want to sell him.
Your company tells you they're struggling financially this year and they have to reduce your salary, but no worries, you'll get it back in 12 months. 11 months later they ask you to reduce you salary or you're fired. I'm sure you'd be happy.

Exactly.... in fact, Frenkie was on a contract of 14m EUR per year, however, so far he has never been paid his full salary. The first year he got 12m EUR, second year only 3m EUR and third year 9m EUR. You can't have it both ways, the guy signed a contract, deferred his salary and extended with the agreement that he'd paid back the deferred amount over the next years. Then the club wants him to take a pay cut in order to stay else he's out? That's just scummy business to be honest.

City and Liverpool are miles ahead. Spurs under Conte look like they are building a good team especially with the extra business they’ve done. Chelsea under Tuchel probably stronger but depends on how they replace their departing players.

I think ETH really is up against it. Tough to convince players who want to be winning things or playing at the highest level possible.

It's not just deferred wages. It's also loyalty bonuses (what the fuck is that, don't you already get paid for playing at the club?), plus the base salary is just too high compared with other players in the team and even Europe.

It's totally fine to want to sell a player because you feel his wages are too high for current team possibilities and what he showed so far. It's also normal to pay him his deferred wages from the previous 2 years whatever those are.

The salary is higher due to the wages being deferred and loyalty bonuses are something virtually every player gets when sign a new contract paid out to them as across length of contract as long as dont put in a transfer request.

They are not selling him primarily due to wages... folk still cant see how these situations are playing out it seems.

He will get his deferred salary. Are there any sources claiming the opposite?

And I don't think it's unreasonable to ask him for a paycut or go to a club that will pay him his money (he will have no issue getting a comparable salary). He has to consider what kind of relationship he wants to have with his club.

His deferred salary and loyalty bonus would be 25m or so going by that graphic and it is built into next four years of contract.

As said if I were him would be asking for that when leave and for Barca that would be taken into account on salary calculations also if/when it is paid.

Asking him to take a pay cut is fine if want him to stay.. but that doesnt seem to be the situation. It appears they have tried to sell him and once deal agreed then take up the financial argument to try and force it through.

They are selling him because of wages, because he can bring in a good sum, and because his performances were subpar. All three factors count. There is absolutely no reason he should be getting triple the money Pedri is or what he's getting.

If he would've played like a world-class CM the club would no doubt make an effort to pay him those wages, but he's meh, playing OK without being a difference-maker. You can replace that output.

No they are primarily selling him as Xavi prefers others in his system.

If it were a player they wanted to stay the first discussion would be ways to decrease costs on the books for both going forward.

Pedri hasnt given up the money FDJ has either and unlikely club just save on that money even if he leaves as surely FDJ has in place to protect that deferred salary didnt receive and the bonus due.

He has never been played in role that suits him and Xavi prefers mid built on Busquets but regardless it is about player first money second.

Can claim his performances wee sub par but he has been Barcas best mid across past three seasons on average never playing in system that fully suits him.

If he was as bad as some are trying to make out then wouldnt be looking at 85m for him.

Also selling because he can fetch a high market value. Like Semedo, Emerson and the likes before. Can't achieve the same with the Roberto's and Busquets also on similar or higher wages.

Barto probably threw the kitchen sink to get FdJ signing over the line ahead of PSG. With everything coming out now it is not outlandish that he has a wage spike that come into effect after his presidential term finished.

He wanted to pass the buck the the next board, but probably thought it would be manageable enough and didn't expect the Covid curveball to bring down his house of cards.
