we wouldn't be in the position to finish 3rd in the group though.

you can transition without being completely shit. you can transition without having to beat the best team.

That is the thing, if we had kept him, next season or so when he is gone we will be shit. Not having him will result in a drop in quality whenever his departure happens, also keeping him and with his wages, it is not like we can improve the team that much.

you're just embarrassing yourself with this shitty takes just because your too proud to admit we are shit without him.

what the fuck did fati do for this club that would warrant all this high expectations?! it's as if we're missing prime eto'o due to injuries and we lost 30 goals a season without him.

Losing the best ever player is bound to affect the team negatively, but we really handled it in the worst possible way. We even sold Trincao, who would start at RW now. His wages were too high. Need to offload Dembele and De Jong for the same reason, and reinvest.

trincao and dembele are EL level for now, not much lost there.

Competitive? We lost 8-2 to Bayern and lost 4-1 and 3-0 at home to the worst PSG and Juve sides of recent history in his last 12 months. We had also lost the last three clasicos and were winless in the last three matches against Atletico.

He kept us towards of the league and got us results consistently against the weaker teams but we were just as out of depth against decent opposition.

Just forget it.

Against Bayern, Liverpool or Ajax in current team would just produce horror. With or without Messi. With Messi replaced by Mbappe, Haaland, Lewa.. you named it, it would not be much different. But of course old Messi is not any better than those three but It's the whole system that is on the downhill.

You mention Messi only saved us against Eibar, Elche, or whatever shat teams we faced last year (never remember those short lived teams), i would like to see how Depay would save us from the pit in this La Liga season like Messi did last season.

I couldn't bare watching the full betis game tbh after we were dominated 1st half.

To be able to repeat last season points and goals, we need to win 18 of 23 remaining games and losing only 3 times. And scoring 52 in 23 games.

Now we're on 23 in 15 games.

Tells you something.

I still wouldn't want him back. We just needed to move on. We didn't manage to add attacking quality with him, Suarez and Griezmann gone, and Fati being injury prone. It's a combination of unfortunate factors and terrible planning

Keep the delusion.

Yet i agree we didn't build our future soon enough, but the mascaraed is over Messi dragged us to stages we didn't deserve and people were complaining why we don't win CL blabla.

He was boosting an not even EL league team ..

Everything attack wise since ages was mostly due to Messi and some Suarez ultra instinct moment.

the rest was : zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

That's he deserved a BDor for the 2018/2019 season dragging this sorry ass team to those stages was beyond imagination.

Now to just even get near those results we need 4-5 new players and Xavi moving his ass to make things work for months if not a years .... just show the magic the little man was working.

I love analysis.
And i've seen people counting how many points a player contributed to his team in every game with their goal.
So, like scoring 1 goal in a 1-1 draw is counted as 1 point contribution.
One player scoring 2 goals after 1-1 for a 3-2 win is counted as 2 points contribution.
And two players scoring at a 2-0 win is counted as 1.5 point contribution for each player.
Just like that. And of course, it's only offensive (goal) contribution, and only focus on the goal scorer, which is the easiest thing you can do.
Now i looked back to 19 la liga games from 13 Dec 2020 (win vs Levante) to 5 April 2021 (a win vs Valladolid), and here are point contribution for every player:

1. Messi 20.2 points
2. De Jong 6.5
3. Griezmann 4.75
4. Dembele 4.5
5. Alba 3.5
6. Trincao 2.2
7. Araujo 2
8. Moriba 1.5
8. Puig 1.5
10. Lenglet 1
10. Braithwaite 1
10. Dest 1
10. Pedri 1
14. Mingueza 0.75
15. Junior 0.6

Summarize it to 51 points. Same with our undefeated points during that 16 win in 19 consecutive games.
