True. Argentina had many players perform to their best. That's why they are doing better than in years. Functional team. It wasn't one player performance.

Coach deserves a lot of credit too.

That's why I also think they have a chance at World Cup. First time in a while they are a team. Every player have their own role and it works well.

Agreed, Scaloni deserves a lot of credit. The atmosphere in the squad is great and kudos to Scaloni for that.

There is a few question marks in terms of squad depth (the backups of CB, CM and ST), but the Argentina's starting XI should put up a fight against any team.

Would think a stats nerd like @Birdy would appreciate Messi leading Copa America in almost every major statistic from chances created, goals scored, assists, etc. Not to forget how well he played if you actually watched him play in that tournament which I doubt this guy did.

But when you have an agenda against a certain player, like Messi here, all those things go out of the window and you start picking and choosing what you find important and what not

You'll choose the most obscure stats to claim that Dembele is great and has WC potential, but when it comes to Messi we shall just ignore it

OK, It may sound I am on an agenda here,
But that's not it at all:

Argentina NT, as well as Barca before the summer, were molded exactly the way they should to accommodate Messi and his game.
That's why I don't see that much in him topping stats like chances created, or stats like xG chain, and xA
Why?
Because the whole team is structured for Messi to do his thing. And its expectable, under those conditions, to see all those numbers pumped.

But is it really sufficient?
What about the other stats that are never mentioned in the elegies written about him, even on meh or so and so performances?
Like possession losses,
Or the ones for which no stat is yet available: like slowing down play by forcing the whole team to follow his tempo on the ball, OR like not opting for the best option available n the build-up because he will keep the ball on his feet longer than needed?

Yes, concessions in way of playing can be made for someone with exceptional individual talent like prime Messi, because the returns justify it.
Not the same can be said about current MEssi, and
that has been the case for quite a few years, we have witnessed it again and again.

After the 18-19 and the lost CL, the case is closed, no team can ever win something important conceding their way of playing for post-prime Messi (and of course a Copa America is not an important trophy given the level of NTs. It has prestige, sure, but no real difficulty of facing the football cutting-edge forefront)
Whoever doesn't see it, is just too much emotionally attached and does not think clearly
as is the case with most here who grew up adoring Messi

France will make sure Messi wins it

Lionel Messi Ballon d'Or: France Football have reportedly told him he's won 2021 award

We know Messigician. We won't know for sure until PSG plans this grand ceremony all over Paris.

I think he performed in Copa better than the preceding season at Barca

❗️@FApor_elmundo [who was one of the first to announce the winner in 2019] reports that, those closest to Messi, are now convinced he will get his #7 this year ? from all inputs received so far, all roads are leading to this scenario. #BallonDOr 🌕🏆

It was probably put as a clause in his contract when signing for PSG FFS

Nasser stormed in to the L'equipe offices and told them they'll have no paper the next day if they don't do 'the right' thing

I dont get the lewandowski argument. Its not a pitt award cause he missed out last year?
This is Cr7 2013 level pathetic with him and Madrid crying about what Blatter said.

Cl/Euro's had no stand out. Copa America had Messi bossing it and finally winning something woth Arhentina against all odds in Brazil while being one of the best individual players in terms of output.

True since that he been weak with PSG and his what have you done lately factor is poor compared to Benzema, Lewa, Salah or even CR7 but he still deserves it most this year overall.
Maybe tighter than before but still the best in 2021.

I don't neccessarily disagree with some of the stuff you said, but come on, there is no need to push it, Argentina is a top 2, at worst top 3 nation in South America, its not exactly mythical suff that they won a tournament.

First team to beat Brazil in Brazil(Copa) in thirty years. It was great achievement.

And its probably the first time in 30 years nobody could name any of Brazils forwards except one(Neymar) in thirty years.

Come on, you get my point, this wasn't the revolutionary stuff as you guys try to make it out to be, Argentina is a top 2 nation in South America, and at some point they had to win something.

Yeah Brazil ain't as good as before but historically it hasn't been easy to win Copa anyway.

Like i said, messi was number one across jan to july in terms of combination of performance and throphy. Saving barca from the pit, (almost) made us went toe to toe with atletico from practically outside european league. He's also the official best player of copa.

Jorginho maybe has the better trophies. Lewa probably has an overall better performance score. But messi takes it for number two in both categories.

Is there any weak statement in that above?

Xavi is extremely upset at Al Sadd?s sheikh. He broke his promise of letting Xavi leave if Bar?a came calling. They had to pay his release clause.

? @OnzeTv3

Crazy idea
But what if Qatari money slicked @LaLigaEN decision to block FCBarcelona signing so that both @PSG_English would get Messi and @beINSPORTSUSA would have a marketable product after it lost LaLiga broadcast rights to ESPN?
