I think De Jong is about as good a player as prime Rakitic. They have different strengths. Rakitic had an impressive range of pass, could ping the ball to any point of the pitch, and had a great middle-to-long shot. De Jong has much better press resistance, dribbling and ball conduction while lacking in the passing range and shooting.

Prime Rakitic is superior, imo. De Jong is better at dribbling but Rakitic is way better overall with his passing and shooting, also defending. Not to mention how he turned from a no 10, a playmaker of his team into a cover position for Messi at Barca.
De Jong now is 24, at prime age. He can be better for sure.

If you think Rakitic was better than the Bastian who was a key player for Bayern 2013 treble and Germany WC 2014...you have lost your marbles.
Kante has won EPL with Leicester, EPL and CL with Chelsea, and WC with France. Key player in all those sides.
Pogba and Fabregas are on a similar level to Rakitic. I didn't say they were better.
Meh, Pogba and Fabregas in terms of ability are beyond Rakitic. A good portion of Rakitic's reputation comes from the fact that he played for us in 2014-2018. Individually, rating his raw skillsets to other midfielders, he's not not in the upper echelon. People whom disagree are usually either Croatians or Barcelona fans prone to overrating their comrades.

Rakitic in 2015 was playing at a better level than current De Jong, but you can't estimate how well De Jong would do in a near-perfect team at the time. The difference between Barca during Rakitic's peak and current Barca is big.
If you'd have De Jong at Bayern or even Manchester City, IMO he'd be awesome.

2015 raki is definitely underrated here, he was top. Unfortunaltely he declined very fast but he only costed 20mio if i remember correctly so he was worth of it.

So was Rakitic but he didn't make a career out of being perma injured (KDB) , escaping red card merchant (Casemiro) or faking injuries Pep's enemy Bastian
