Best thing is that now, when relieved of pressure of not winning anything major for argentina in his career, he might see messi with idgaf attitude, trying impossible stuff and having fun. We might see the best messi in upcoming months, scoring corner kicks, some insane passing, and chips all over the place. Exciting!

Or he loses his motivation but I would bet on this. He will come back with a smile on his face and play great ball.

It is what it is.

Balon d'or is a hypebeast more in line with the media of winning credentials than actual best performances. In that regard the Euro will always be > Copa. Not saying Chiesa is better than Messi or had a better season than Messi.

But nobody is going to go back and watch the games. All they are going to see is Chiesa performances in the Euro, Chiesa getting a winning goal in the Italian Cup final and getting 15 club goals and 11 assists throughout the season (9 btw?).

Cannavaro won the trophy in 2006 despite getting relegated. So it has always been a popularity contest built around the story, not the quality.

I thinks Messi's form in the league and the first trophy with Argentina are enough to seal him this Ballon D'Or. Chiesa is nowhere close.

Messi, when asked about his future at Barcelona, folliwing his return from the copa America.

“I am disconnected from everything, I am not looking at anything. Enjoying this moment, the people, falling down little by little about what this means and preparing to go on vacation with my family, which is what it is now. The truth is that happy, impossible to explain the happiness that I, my family and my friends feel. A beautiful madness all this"

It's a great moment to sign Messi after his huge international success.

Alot more marketing mileage to consider, plus Messi could be on an emotional high and give a great season.
