With how we use the fullbacks, especially Alba, he's going to leave a lot of space and Lenglet cannot cover the spaces very well once Alba has gone forward and often has struggled against reading the final passes and against pacy players as well.

I struggle to see what exactly Malmierda should get credit for tonight or for that matter his entire woeful stint at Barça so far.

Other than the defensive stability he initially brought to the club in his first season, pre-Roma in particular, although the stats hide a lot in this regard, his supposed strength (defensive stability) has been even further exposed this season. 7 goals conceded in 4 league games. That's almost 2 per game.

As for giving chances to Fati and Pérez, it is not like he had a lot of options NOT to use them given the injury crisis to almost every single of our attacking players with the exception of Griezmann, who naturally is also a work in progress due to being a new guy that is yet to fully acclimatize.

Against pathetically bad league opponents in the form of the last two season's RM and AM teams. Context and everything.

2 consecutive historically bad CL embarrassments. To put it into perspective, in CL history, only 4 times have a team thrown away a 3 goal led in a 2 legged tie and we have the unfortunate record of accounting for half of those 4 unforgivable giveaways in the CL. Aside from a very uninspired CdR final defeat.

On top of that no tactical setup in sight and most of the time very, very blend and uninspiring football.

I really struggle how come Malmierda, in this day and age, can have fanboys among our fanbase. Have the standards fallen this low or are some people openly projecting their masochistic fantasies?

I want to give EV credit for starting Fati tonight. He could have played Bob or even Suarez, but he played Fati.

srry mate, but in retrospect he will be remembered more for those horrible CL defeats from a favorable and fortunate position against Roma and Liverpool than the 2 La Liga wins vs horrible competitors.

Transitional period? That will be the next coach if anything. Xavi got replaced during Luchos time here, same for Alves and Valdes and Mascherano too although he stayed another 6 months. Messi, Busi, Pique will probably still be starters when Valverde leaves because i think there is very little chance he stays another 1-2 years after this season. So it only was Iniesta, and right now it's Raki and maybe Suarez besides that it's more like the final years of the old core but this far not really a big transition. I think thats more something for the next coach and next board, by the time around 2020-2021. After the current 31-32 year old players are gone there will be no starter of Pep era left and even of MSN triple winning team there will be only Alba (also 31+ by that time), ter Stegen, Umtiti (who isn't looking like he'll be for long right now) and...well Neymar if he comes back. So i'd say that will be the big transition that has to be done.

For the game yesterday credit to Ernie for starting the youngsters and barcaforums favorite midfield, but after so many disappointments it's hard to get excited. The fear he'll eventually fall back to things like playing Sergi on the wing and Raki-Busi-Vidal midfield is always there

Did we just replace the old core with youngsters the last two seasons I'm not aware of? Oh, XIs' average age in his last season was 29. Nice transitional period right.
