Zinedine Zidane

Villarato!
I never underestimated man-managements skills. I said it is important. Ancelotti made a career on that.
I said it is strange in 2018 to have that as your best skill.
The time is long gone when that was enough (ask Anceloti and his recent history will give the answer). We are not in 2002, 2003 anymore. Football has evolved.

I am not talking about any hyper-sophisticated intricacy that by itself does not achieve anything. (If that was the case Marcelo Bielsa would have been winning titles every year). But Zidane is nowhere close the new generation of great tactician managers able to build teams (Pep, Simeone, Conte, Pocetino, Tuchel, Sari etc)
He has overachieved compared to his abilities and it partly comes down to one of the best squads in the recent history.
It is undeserved compared to the work that these other managers have done that is not reflected accordingly in titles.

Ever heard a saying "work harder or work smarter"? He could be one of these guys if he wanted to be and try to install philosophy in a club devoid of one. No need.

Nothing Zizou did is undeserved.

Tuchel  Even Conte by comparison hasn't done anything amazing that Zizou didn't do. He moved a 4-man defense into a 5-man transitional defense with two wing backs and he got found out a season later. By comparison Zidane converted a 4-3-3 into a diamond. Hardly amazing, but noteworthy.

I wouldn't be surprised if he sacrifices a baby lamb to the giant Franco shrine that he keeps in his closet and then bathes in the blood before these CL ties.

Disgusting domination of the CL FFS.

IF i remember correctly Zidane switched to diamond the last 2 months of last year's campaign, mainly because he was trying to find a place for Isco. It worked well, but it was mainly serendipity, and not something consciously planned and tried out as part of tactical construction of a team. Isco was until then seen as a reserve.

For the others, if one sits down and realizes what a shitty squad Chelsea has, he/she will realize Conte worked wonders there. Bar Hazard, Kante and Courtois no other Chelsea squad member will be featuring for any other top teams, because they are from atrocious to mediocre to 'there are many better than me'. Without Conte they would have never won the EPL

Tuchel has done a fantastic job at BVB, producing a side able to play football. The downgrade is evident this season for BVB which has already changed manager. Both Tuchel and Pochetino will shine at a big club, if they prove able to work with start players (sth Emery wasn't).

Thought these luck stories have had their time, but apparently some still believe it's a main factor.
As for luck and merit: The results in the CL the last 3 seasons are undeserved. Not all, but majority. Playing 3 finals in a row is unreflective of what we see on the pitch.
And it should be clear to anyone not blinded by the glare of the white celebration lights of success.

So, yes, all those sayings about luck do not come only from Barca cules blinded by their hatred. They come from neutrals as well, because they have watched football for some years and it's strange to see that amount of luck concentrated on a single coach in his spell.
Tie against Bayern perfectly exemplifies my point.
Look at the aggregate xGoals scoreline over the two legs:

Deserved qualification for Madrid? Hmmmmm

Scandalous luck is one pillar where the 'Zidane miracle' is resting upon. The other is, as i said, one of the best squads in the recent history of the sport he inherited, and which he man-managed well.

PS: I was saying the same about Lucho's coaching abilities (not about luck though, he did not have all that luck) in relation to Barca's squad.
That's why i am waiting badly for both Zidane and Lucho to take over other clubs. They will be found out so so massively...

Zidane is the best manager we have had for quite a while, even if it mostly down to luck, i will take it.
Better lucky than good, but we will see how long it last.

You really need to work on your terminology. So you're saying out of 11 knockout ties in 3 seasons where Zidane has lost none, his team won at least 6 of them undeservedly and to top it off he's undeservedly won the three CLs. I welcome you to highlight even ONE tie where the opponent deserved to go through over Madrid. Because in many people's books if you put a wasteful team vs a clinical team, you know which one did their job better.

Your anecdotal graphics and waffling on about luck means absolutely nothing in the long run. Shots, possession and 15,000 other stats won't matter if you don't make it count. Not to mention that suffering through a tie and winning it is a skill. If Bayern were so completely superior, they would've battered Madrid 7-0.
