So Julien, the fact that Mbappe was linked to Real Madrid this whole summer was just Real Madrid's own wishful thinking and RM-propaganda? Mbappe never ever expressed interest in joining them?

I don't think we have a chance landing him. He doesn't like us in particular, why would he join us?

Who said he had an agreement with Real? Marca.

We can't be sure of anything, but he chose PSG in the end, and that's a fact. He didn't even choose them because of the salary (his wage were only discussed between PSG, and his father last wednesday.) Mbappe said it after the game with France, he chose PSG because he knows he will play there in the main 11.

My personal opinion would be that he likes Real, sure, but he didn't want to start from scratch on the bench trying to win a spot. Maybe he was scared to fail? Whatever, to be honest I'm just happy he said No to Real, and we know he said No to them, and that's all that counts to me.

Why would he refuse? It would not be the first time a player who fancied a club as a kid joins the rival once an adult.

PSG won't let his contract runs out, they are not stupid. All we need is to be in good terms with them.

1- Barca board changes.

2- Perez, and PSG honeymoon is over as Perez is angry at them because of Mbappe, and PSG is angry at Perez because he's part of the clubs that try to make them banned from CL according to L'Equipe.

To me all sounds good for a future transfer here. But maybe I'm too optimistic.

Thanks Julien. Yeah, I am happy too that he didn't go to Real Madrid, one of few bright spots of this past transfer window.

The reason why I think the chances of him joining us are slim is because to your first point, I think the chances of Bartomeu & Co getting rooted out are slim. Let's hope. Secondly, PSG will not allow him to walk free and will force him to sign a new contract and if he has a contract and he is a big hit PSG will never let him go (to us or anybody), just like how they handled Verratti, no matter who is in charge of us. If Mbappe is a big hit they have no incentives to sell. They allegedly were willing to sell Di Maria to us even with Bartomeu in charge, right? So it all comes down to the perceived value of the player to PSG. And for Mbappe to not extend his contract would mean that he thinks PSG is too small to realize his potential despite his affection for it and there are other clubs lining up with starting spots and big paychecks waiting for him to join. Overall just not very likely in my opinion.

Antero Henrique was willing to negociate. He would still have had to ask for Nasser approval afterwards. And there was a big chance that Nasser said No because he hates our current board.

That or PSG is scared by the FFP, and was willing because 50m would have helped them since Di Maria is apparently a POS since that first leg against us.

About Verratti, you should always follow the different clubs insiders on twitter (if you have a twitter account), even if you hate those clubs, because you can sometimes learn great things.

<< Verratti negociated his stay in Paris after he fired Di Campli. Henrique promised him that he can leave during summer 2018 if he still wants to leave the club even if he renews now. >> [ParisUnited]

L'Equipe, and LeParisien didn't deny what ParisUnited said either.

I fear that any club is good to choose but us :( as long as the current board is in place. I'm optimistic that they will have to leave soon though. They can tell whatever lies they want about Messi, he still didn't renew. And for socios, I'm 99.9% sure Messi > Barto.

So if Graham Hunter is right Real Madrid was indeed quite advanced in Mbappe's transfer but decided to walk away because of not wanting to upset Ronaldo and changing the equilibrium of the team, hmmmm.

This paragraph has me sighing:
For all the satellite bonuses of the Zidane era at Madrid, the central gravity around which they circle is that the club has become a meritocracy. No longer is it the case that the president grants time off behind the back of the coach, or insists that a particular transfer market whimsy of his must start because he's "the best in the world."

Smart :papaperez:

i wonder if the board even considered that we could've ended up with him for 160m, if we were not getting coutinho for 160 m. him plus seri would've been a much better window.

The best player I've seen at that age since Ronaldo at Barca. Incredible talent.

Barca miss out as usual. Real might regret that as well.

From what I did find in all french sources about Mbappe, especially Monaco insiders, all say the same: Monaco wanted the money.

They had an agreement with Real, but in the end, even if they wanted to avoid it, they had to pick PSG as it was the only club Mbappe was willing to join, and again, Monaco wanted its 180m right now.

They didn't want to risk waiting another year.

But it was loan? They're are not getting the money right now?

both us and Madrid will really regret not signing him, hes going to be a star. at times I cant believe hes only 18. unless some huge shit regarding FFP comes up around PSG i don't see Mbappe being able to leave.

the only solace I take in this situation is hes wasting his career in Ligue 1 but i guess that shows money>prestige these days. :coffee:

Improvin' Perfection!!
So Monaco president says that they couldn't understand how PSG could sign Mbappe player without breaking FFP! It is coz you sold your soul to the devil and took truckload of money in an under the table deal you prick!!

I hope both PSG and Monaco face the consequences for making fun of the clubs who are strictly following the FFP rules
