I wonder whether he'll ever depart; might as well be that he becomes Atletico's Fergie. Noone, no matter their football expertise, could lead the team and also the club like he does for years now. Gabi I think once said that no other manager would have the moral authority to do what Cholo did. And he's spot on. The players play for him because of his attitude and history with the club while he takes the players to the curb 24/7. The fact that the players follow him regardless speaks volumes. Any random mercenary coach would not be able to get the squad fired up week in week out like this.
When Cholo took over Atletico their were 10th in the league and just got eliminated from the Copa by the mighty Albacete. Gil Marin hired 16 different coaches since 1996 and on average signed 14 (!) players per season since then. In short, the club was mentally finished. Enter Cholo, and a world class team is formed, the atmosphere in the Calderon is wonderful and they are in a CL final yet again. Maybe people haven't fully realized yet that what Cholo did here might be one of the greatest achievements in modern football.

Cholo understands the clubs, he knows the culture, in fact I only hate him because of his shit stirring at Inter Milan but he has matured since his Argentinian clique days. When he moved out of Inter, he won the Serie A against a mighty Juventus. He helped Inter win the European Cup and then beat Inter for the Coppa. That Lazio team was stacked but he also took them the extra mile. This is what Simeone does, goes the extra mile. All that having won the league and the cup with Atletico. It makes no sense how his team which has lost core players to be joint top in the league, and in the CL final with such a short squad, AGAIN. However he has the energy in abundance for his players to draw from, and the confidence is bottomless.
The way Simeone and his players approached Bayern and Barca says it all. "This is Atleti" and "We are happy with Barcelona" says it all.

Simeone is the definition of a complete manager. His tactics, ability to motivate players and make them play as a unit, his signings and ability to integrate youth are all terrifying from a competitor point of view.
Eliminating both Bayern and Barca back to back over 2 legs is a massive, MASSIVE statement from Atletico.
I would be shocked if they don't win the trophy now.

I don't know if he's legitimately crazy or simply a dick. But judging by what he inspires, i'd say it's the former.

Same. I think it's due to lack of money spent. If he spent millions like Mou it would be all hate. The fact he stuck with this team despite getting raided by Chelsea is impressive.

We are all on the simeone banwagon right now but if he gives real a 2nd cl in 2 years he will become more hated than mourinho for me.

Provided they get the right manager, they're in great condition going forward. They have a clear idea of how to play and have such ferocious young talents. They don't have obvious backups a fullback in the long term, but every other position they're pretty stacked. I could see someone like Marcelino at Villarreal take over and sustain them.

Agree with all of it except I have doubts about his longevity at Atléti. For one, he's expressed his desire to coach Inter as well as the NT somewhere down the line. Two, the modern game is way too demanding to see another Fergie happening.
Agreed on both points. He will probably take on Inter at some point and when you look at current managers of top clubs there is only one manager who is holding his job longer than Simeone. Wenger.

Last season they spend more than RM and Barça together. Yes, they had help from some transfer founds for Jackson Martinez and maybe some other transfer as well, but still. They are not only competitive on the field, but are also starting to get financially competitive to other big European clubs. New TV contract will make them even stronger in that regard if they stay smart on the market.
Why? He won't "give" them the trophy, RM will need to deserve their win in the final.
They were only seconds away to win it in 2014 and I believe they'll make it this time. I just hope Cholo learned something and won't risk to start some unfit or not totally prepared players like he did in 2014 final with Diego Costa and then had to burn his first sub after 10 minutes. I still believe Atletico would win if they hadn't start Costa and they could bring on another pair of fresh legs for the last 10-15 minutes. Not to mention their team has developed a lot over the last two seasons and they have more depth now.
