Claudio Bravo

Nobody wants Bravo to fuck up. But if he does, he won't be treated the same way that TS has been.

Of course he will. He did one mistake vs. Napoli in a meaningless friendly and almost everybody made fun of him. The only reason people like Bravo around here is because he almost always delivers.

In a poll on this website, not so long ago, many people voted for Stegen to the be no1 keeper before the season started. Now, suddenly everyone loves Bravo like there's no tomorrow. Yea, I don't buy that.

Ter Stegen has more fans around here, believe it or not.

After a friendly-game vs Napoli (in which Bravo had an amazing save in the first half, but made a big error at the goal):

Bravo was always an average goal keeper, good WC did not change that, and he does have a penchant for these kinds of mishandles. He had a lot to do with Neymar's first La Liga goal for Barca.

He remains the weakest signing of the summer.

If Ter Stegen is not the undisputed starter for this team, it would be a travesty.

Well that solves the #1 goalie debate.

Ridiculous error, inexcusable really

I'm getting vibes of Rustu from Bravo. At least Bravo speaks Spanish. I fully expect one of Masip/Blanco/Suarez/Ondoa/Ortola to replace Bravo as backup keeper in a couple years.

Meanwhile, me:

 one mistake and now everybody thinks Bravo is like Pinto...

Bravo had almost zero trust from this place from day one. Almost everyone thought he was going to be a bench warmer. Ter Stegen came like a knight on a white horse, and people fell for that right away, and downplayed Bravo's transfer and his quality. That IS what happened.

One year later, after Bravo proved on the field he is better than Ter Stegen, the majority still wanted to switch them and make Stegen no1. And some people say this place is biased against Stegen. :rofl1:

Well of course nobody liked Bravo when he was first signed. He was hot off the heels of an absolutely dreadful season with Real Sociedad and ter Stegen was the promising keeper who had long been expected to sign since Valdes first declared he had no interest in resigning with the club. Put that on top of how many fans disliked Lucho at the start of the season, not only for that, but for sending Deulofeu on loan and for his refusal to find a consistent XI, and it's clear as day why Bravo had less fans. His mistake against Napoli in his first game certainly didn't help his case, either. To use all of that to try and say he's less popular now is laughable. Anyone with sense will say Bravo is the better keeper. Opinions can change on any player, and you can just look at Roberto, Pique, Rafinha, Munir, Neymar, etc. to prove that.

Please, people think Bravo is better and still want Stegen to be no1 (check the poll, start of the season)? Make me understand. Nah, Bravo has been treated like shit at first, I kept quiet about it, waited for him to prove his worth. He did it in spades last season, both in La Liga and in Copa America for Chile. Now, he got injured, and people had their wish and we all got to see Stegen as no1. Guess what? He has some learning to do. He is not ready.

Now, when has his next mistake? Sevilla

- Please consider the amount of time he already had playing in LL (clean sheets included)
- Check the post surrounding that date. (forgot date)
- Go back to TS thread.
- ¿?
- PROFIT

No seriously (open question), do you spot another significant mistake/blunder from Napoli to Sevilla & after?

Bravo was given a short leash and of course any mistake is magnified. He then followed that up with 9 straight clean sheets setting a record. Mats has leaked at least a goal a game for 6 straight now.

After 5-6 games, all clean sheets, people wanted Mats to enter back into the team and drop Bravo just like that, without any explanations, even though he was performing very solid. That only happened because Bravo was less liked than Stegen. And still is.

Lol serghei, you really like me :). Necroing one of my posts from over a year ago, very nice. I see the point you're trying to make, but my post doesn't work for it.

Btw, nothing I said in that post was inaccurate at the time, nor was it knee-jerking over a "friendly-game"

At the time? The man just came at the club. He didn't even had time to settle in. And people were making stupid jokes about him being Pinto 2. You said in that thread he is gonna be a bench warmer. Some even said he was going to leave the club because Masip was better than him.

So, tell me, has Bravo impressed you or changed your mind, or you still think he is average and just waiting for the right time to say it again?

You didn't just comment on the mistake, you also made predictions about him not being good enough in the future as well. That's where you were wrong and unfair to Bravo.

Umm, at the time, meaning coming from an average career at Real Sociedad. At the time, meaning before being injured in training he was scheduled to being a backup. And at the time, not counting players who were unlikely to play like Vermaelen and Douglas, Bravo was the weakest of the remaining signings by virtue of talent and track record.

You know my position on Bravo. I've said he had a very solid season, but relatively uneventful and uncomplicated. My opinion on him will not change after just one season. He is a very experienced goal keeper, and that is the biggest positive he has going for himself.

My only issue vis a vis Bravo is with the overration and overhyping that surrounds him.

Tells me you & a lot never saw Bravo played for Chile before signing with Barca.

Bravo over hyping came after months of clean sheets, MaTs came prior to step in pitch.

Do you see the bias?

I'm not so sure Stegen was scheduled to being anything. Why is everyone so sure Stegen would've been rock-solid starter? He wasn't Neuer or Buffon when he came. Bravo's career at Real Sociedad was good enough to warrant a 12m. move to one of the biggest club in the world. Also, being Chile's captain should have given some hints about his leadership qualities as well. Only serious players are captains of their national team, let alone a very good NT like Chile. There is no exception to this. Bravo was underrated when he came, pure and simple. And Stegen was overrated, hence the discrepancies in the sympathy (or antipathy in Bravo's case) which whith they were welcomed by the fans. The image the fans had about these players was not the right (or fair) one.

I know your position of Bravo. That's why I said you don't like him. When you say about a player that he will never be good enough to be a starter at a team, it is a big deal. It involves a degree of certainty, one that can only come from either not liking him or seriously underrating him.

You're opinion on him was already changed by reality. You surely now think he is good enough to be more than a bench warmer at Barcelona.

There's no overrating Bravo on this forum, as an overall impression. I haven't seen people saying he is better than Neuer, or better than De Gea, Buffon, or Curtois. That would be overrating him. Placing him in top 10 in the world at this moment is not overrating.

And about last season, no one can say anything bad about it (except the mistake vs Sevilla). He won the Zamora, and was MotM (or close) in both Valencia games, the RM game on Camp Nou were Real dominated us for 55 min., and was solid all around, with very few exceptions. Clear no1 and best keeper in the league type of season. Winning the Copa America with his country as captain for the first time in their history was the icing on the cake. Had he played in Copa and CL he would've probably made 4/4.
