Can someone explain to me why there is this huge wall around the buildings ? I never really thought about this one but now i would really want to know =) thanks!

It look like the current board have given up on the idea of building a new stadium, it supposedly is not possible to build it like they did in Bilbao and the other option to build it at the end of Diagonal is not viable. I think that still it will be a historic misstake to just renovate Camp Nou, it doesn't bring in enough cash to compete with the new stadiums, Emirates with half the capacity make more money than Camp Nou. It is to small in size, New Wembley is 20% larger (47.000 vs 40.000) than Camp Nou with 10.000 less seats.

The structure has been exposed to the elements for 56 years, what is the state of the concrete, the rebar, how much rust has already eaten away on the steel, how many corners were cut when the stadium was built in the 1950s and again in the 1980s? We should not forget that FC Barcelona could not aford to finnish the stadium, in fact the 1980 extension was part of the original project but was not built because there was no money. Was the quality of the concrete really up to standards or did they cut corner there to so they could afford to finish what was alredy under construction back in the 1950s?

For those that have not seen it, here is the video about the exposition of the stadium in the town hall during the construction of Camp Nou. It shows us that not only did they not afford to build the whole stadium, but in fact the extension in the 1980s was a downgrade of the original third tier which would have been larger. This can only be because they could not afford to build it as designed, so the question is how much did they have to cut corners again in the 1980s when building the third tier? How much did they cheat with the quality of the building material?

Glad to hear that the plans for the new stadium has been dropped. Interesting facts on Camp Nou.. Thanks for sharing.

Nice post, but aren't Arsenal often criticized for their ridiculous seat-prices (certainly compared to their performances on the pitch :)) Also, we shouldn't forget that Arsenal fans typically are rather wealthy, I guess (but that's a just guess) that most of Barca's socis aren't that wealthy, so suddenly increasing the ticket-prices a lot wouldn't be accepted I guess.

What do you mean with 47.000 vs 40.000, are you talking about the surface of the stadium there?

those those stadiums bring in more revenues because they have more vip boxes, which is something a renovation will address, in fact its the biggest economic reason behind renovating.

Exactly, Arsenal can charge London prices. Provided the structure is solid we should renovate only, and that renovation should include the addition of multiple suites and VIP seats. That's one of the primary reasons Arsenal make much match day revenue.
