5 - Iñigo Martínez

Above average?

Yet the actual stats suggest he is actually quite a bit below average.

I seriously think you're just forming your opinion off of stats right now. Hell if you want to go to that blinded of a view, then technically Inigo Martinez is better aerially than Kompany (1.6 aerial duels won per game vs. 1.5). You are making a very uninformed claim here.

Wow potential to be one of the best in the world?!

What are his major strengths as a player then?

-strong passer
-strong tackler
-secure stopper
-composed and positions very well
-youth and potential to mold perfectly to our backline

Maybe he is, but nothing at all suggets that Martinez dominates in the air.

So when we say that his actual gameplay shows he's strong in the air despite not being tall, you point towards stats.

When stats justify that he's been "better" than one of the best headers in the world, you throw that evidence out too and say nothing suggests that he's good in the air.

Compare his stats in his own team -
Strong tackler? 11th best in the Real Sociedad team
Secure Stopper? No idea what that is based on
Composed and positon? 5th best in team for interceptions and 3d best defender.
Passer? 13th best pass rate in the Sociedad team last season.

I have watched plenty of games of his and never considere him a dominant player in the air.

The fact is that he was nowhere near one of the most dominant players in the air this season in La Liga. Not even close.

Numbers don't always tell the entire story, any true footballing fan should know that.

So his numbers dont add up but he was a brilliant passer, defender and dominant in the air.

If he was those things it would start to show in his numbers.

The strenths of most of the other players are reflected in this.

He's pretty fast, from what I hear.

Do you not watch him? Strong opinions on paying 30m for a player that you dont watch.

Not being a primarily aerial player doesn't mean he's shit in the air. He's much better than anyone on our team at it. Is aerial ability all that one should be looking for in a defender? That's really narrow-minded. If being a good header is all that would constitute a good transfer to you, we might as well have gotten Fernando Llorente ffs

Even stronger opinions considering I doubt you've watched more than 3-4 games of his. He's not the fastest of CB's but he isn't Hummels slow either. Why anyone expects a CB to be at Alba speed is beyond me.

What? You claimed he is 'dominant in the air' as one of his strengths? I said he isnt.

Where have I said he is shit in that air or being good in the air is all that is important?

You are making things up and trying to change the diection of the debate making up things I have said.

Again the arguments of someone who has little else to fall back on - 'I watch more La Liga than you'

Grow up. You have no idea how much of any team or player I or anyone else has watched.
