Name: Leon Goretzka
Current Team: Schalke 04
Shirt Number: 8
Positions: Midfielder (Centre, Right)
Age: 22 years old (06-02-1995)
Height: 189cm
Weight: 79kg
Nationality: Germany

Goretzka is someone who plays with maturity and responsibility that belies his young age. The 22-year old operates as a defensive midfielder in the team, but can easily slot into any of the advanced central midfield roles and can also play as a right-sided midfielder.

Standing very tall at 1.89m, he is an intimidating presence in the middle of the park and uses his physicality well to dominate the opponents. His height gives him a great advantage in the air and makes him a great target from set-pieces. His physique also allows him to make crucial blocks and clearances in his own area, which is a great trait for a defensive midfielder.

Another prominent feature of his game is his excellent tackling. Goretzka is a smart and a willing tackler capable of winning the ball in the middle of the park. Also a great reader of the game, the 22-year old is always a step ahead of his opponents and thwarts them with crucial interceptions. And after winning the ball, he immediately sets his team on counter attacks, with his passing abilities.

Despite playing as the deepest midfielder, Goretzka possesses a penchant for getting forward and unleashing powerful shots from distance and has scored quite a number of goals from distance for Schalke.

Goretzka, who finished as joint top scorer at this summer's Confederations Cup in Russia, has now entered the final year of his Schalke contract

That'd actually be a decent target. Goretzka has had a good season and was one of Germany's star players in the Confed Cup. Very complete player, similar to Tolisso. Also has one year left on his contract and is unlikely to renew.

I was just watching some of his clips, and holy shit this guys a beast!! Great tackler, and for his height seems to have decent pace. Fairly skilful with great passing ability. But you know barca, we like to ignore young talent until they either increase in price 6 fold or taken by rivals

He's a good player indeed. I doubt he would come this season though as he will try to get as many minutes as possible to play WC18 and already confirmed he will stay at Schalke for one more year. Bayern was interested in him a couple of weeks ago and he refused.

BM got him for next season. Also Brandt.

he denied that he had an agrement with BM.Everyone would deny it. otherwise, Schalke would leave him out of their squad before World cup.

Keita costs more than 85 m euros. l don't see us spending 80+ on him. Above all, l don't expect them after Paulinho.

We are just monitoring him so we can offer 100M in two years after he'll sign with Bayern for free. :braida:

And about Naby Keita we are probably also scouting him for next year when he'll apparently have release clause around 40-50M if rumours are correct. We won't get him now because RBL doesn't want to sell but we could go after him next summer but so will 10 or 20 other clubs (especially if he'll have another great season) and I just don't see us signing him. Maybe for 150M in 3 or 4 years.

Says Gortezka's representative was at the Camp Nou on Sunday. He will be free in 2018. They will talk with the management later.

It would be a nice signing, great young talent for cheap. Hopefully means Gomes will be shown the door too.

This is the kind of signings we should make! I can't say with certainty that he will make it here, but since he would be pretty cheap, there's not much that could go wrong.

Barca needed a player like Rudy, not Goretzka. if he can improve his defensive capabilities, he can replace Vidal. While Barca needs a Rudy typee of midfielder. Almost our all midfielders are like Goretzka typee. No need to add another one. Gomis, Rakitic, even Paulinho plays in same position. But you want another one?

Well Gomes and Paulinho are pretty shit at that though. It would make sense if this accompanies the signing of an actual no 8 playmaker. Goretzka is a decent passer, dribbler etc, but he's a box-to-box mid and yes, similar to what Gomes is, just in actually decent. If Barca signs Goretzka, then they should still track Seri and if that's the case then they have signed 3 mids this year and they should sell 1-2 of those they don't want anymore (Gomes..)

I wonder if we ruled out Seri to go for this guy instead.

Seri is finished and we know that Coutinho's bid will get rejected again. This guy is 22 years old, tall, strong etc. and fits the profile of what our shit board looks for in a midfielder. But he actually comes across as a decent player.

I noticed he is a pretty big guy, how is his speed, acceleration and stamina? We have enough statues in midfield and really wouldn't want another.
