Messi was a force in the league and CL in 18-19. EV failed him that season, not the other way around. EV and Messi both failed in 17-18, but 18-19 EV served the same shitty, conservative 4 man midfield that had failed in 17-18 and got obliterated again.

Considering the same squad with a different manager lost by 6 over 90 minutes against Bayern, EV keeping us within a goal over 180 minutes vs Liverpool is quite impressive in hindsight.

LOL

So now the Valverde cultist are making one of the biggest bottle jobs in clubs history as some kind of masterclass.

LMAO i did not think id see the day EV's fan boys (messigician and his clone account katerina) would actually try to twist the liverpool debacle into some sort of argument in favour of EV  jeeeeesus

Your braindead self doesn't understand the concept that EV had a 50 goal a season Messi while Setien had a 25-30 goal a season Messi.

Messi is the reason we scored 70% of those goals v Pool.

Messi was basically a cheat code in 18/19 CL campaign, but lets be real, Barca came up against a better overall side, Rome matches was a much bigger choke imo.

Also, Messi dropped in level the moment Setien got hired, coincidence? Perhaps not.

Just a coincidence obviously. If Messi's scoring declined by 40% when EV took over, it would be the manager's fault though.

In his final year, EV recognized that:

Griezmann's position is LW.

De Jong should play higher up the pitch.

Araujo is the one to watch.

We just didn't understand him. Visionary :worthy:

Valverde is a good coach and has a good understanding of the game. Maybe misses Zidane cheerleading element. Wish him well in the future.

De Jong was mediocre under him. EV preferred Vidal as a box to box instead of De Jong and often used De Jong wide.
