Quique Setien

what Setien needs to tell the players is that there is nothing wrong trying to score - passing the ball to Messi is not compulsory. Barça forwards and midfielders should be able to score and should take responsibility.

Did this guy seriously start Roberto at CB? That's beyond ridiculous and makes absolutely no sense! Is there any reason to put a player, whose biggest weakness at RB was his defending, at CB? The only explanation is that he is forced to put him in the line-Up by the club management no matter what the formation and tactics are. Next he will probably start him at the front alongside Messi and Griezmann. Remember at the start of the season when Semedo was starting at RB Roberto still started games but in midfield instead, despite clearly not being good enough there either. And when it became clear to Valverde that he can't continue starting him in midfield he started him again at RB.

With Messi's positioning I think the best system for Barca would be ten Hag's 4-2-1-3 where Messi can have a free role and make his runs forward to the box like Donny van de Beek without screwing Barca over by playing with one less winger.

You also get to play Frenkie in his best position. In a flexible double pivot where he got the freedom to roam.

You get two wingers who can create width and win 1v1 and create from the flanks. You get one CF to occupy the CBs.

What it means is less control, but if you want more control you simply sub out the RW and put Messi there and bring in a midfielder like Arthur.

Something like this:

ter Stegen

Emerson - Athletic CB - CB - Alba

Camavinga - de Jong

Messi

Dembele/Griezmann - CF - Neymar :pep:

Suddenly a way faster, way more athletic team that's able to press better, physical double pivot with Fdj and Camavinga and a team that doesn't need Messi to save the way for it to work since it's more balanced by actually playing two players on the flank and a proper CF.

Won't happen IRL, but at least I can do this in FM 20

It's hard to have faith in Setien because he has no precedent of success whatsoever behind him to give us confidence. I've haven't had such low expectations in the last phase of a season in a long time.

Bilbao, Granada, Dortmund and Slavia away were easily worse or at least as bad as this match.

Yeah, but Valverde shouldnt be the benchmark. We look even more chaotic under Setien right now. Still early days though... at least theres hope. Thats the only improvement for now.

Lol. The players are in no position to lecture anyone with that attitude.

Actually the players can drown Setien with their medals and trophies. Setien is just a bum that hasn't won anything in his life. He didn't even do something of note with Betis

Bum Setien lecturing WC, EC, LL, UCL, Ballon D'or winners

This is how football works. The players must follow the plan of the manager. If the manager is not good, change him. But in no way or shape the players should be allowed to do as they please. It's the main reason why we are here today. Allowing the veterans to have too much power.

Real players were in awe of Zidane. Even if he was 0 as a manager.
I guess game recognise game, brother...

And veterans were in awe of Valverde, because he kept things lax, didn't make a fuss, and gave them plenty of days off. Look where that got us.
