peak rafa was the best ever, he dominated both fed and even djoker. though the longevity and sheer class displayed by fed these days is highly admirable.

He's playing a unbelievable tennis, what a backhand, really amazing!
It is not just a matter of winning, but the way he is winning (and he won in his whole career). It is like soccer, you can win the CL by playing like Chelsea or by playing like Barca.
For me Roger is the most talented player ever.

To do the Australian Open, Indian Wells and Miami treble at age thirty-fucking-five is preposterous.

There is a lot of weight in what you are saying there, and that is the number one argument in Rafa's favor and one I always bring first in the discussion. Rafa is unique in having had to win his titles against both peak-Roger and peak-Djoko, surely a monstrous achievement.

But Federer's effortless longevity must also be taken into account and Federer also had to win many (though by no means all, or even most) of his majors against peak-Rafa and peak-Djoko.

It may be the sensible thing to do (considering his extremely advanced years) but he may be throwing away a golden opportunity of becoming number one again.

Yes, he's saying that he will probably skip the entire clay-court season in order to focus solely on the French Open, then the grass-court season (2 tournaments basically) and then the hard-court season after that. Well, if he can maximize his results on grass and the North American hard-courts then he might have a chance at number one. There's also even more hard-court tournaments after the US Open.

As for Rafa, I think he will go for broke in the clay-court season and especially Roland Garros.
