Judging by the performances in this WC, I find it awfully hard to tell who is the best player in this team..

Henderson has to take the 4 jersey now and start every game, he could be crucial to us as an energetic box-to-box midfielder. His midfielder partner is a different matter. When fit I'd choose Carrick no questions asked, but after that I'm struggling. Rodwell? Milner? Chalobah...?

We should have three in the middle. Please no midfield pair.

    Yes, Hodgson's 4-4-2 just doesn't work.

    I don't think he's used a 4-4-2 since 2012.

Henderson, Wilshere and Barkley seems like a great midfield three, although it might be a bit too attack-focused.

Henderson-Imaginary intelligent defence minded midfielder who is not Michael Carrick
    Barkley

Would be a good 3 IMO. Don't want Wilshere anywhere near the pair behind the AM and he's not good enough to displace Barkley. Shame we can't tap the potential of Ravel Morrison, he could provide that spark from the hole behind the striker better than most.
