Argentina

Because Argentina is sooooo bad. One of the worst teams of this WC, perhaps only better than South Korea.

Well, Argentina was not a good team in the WC, but it was not the worst. We only lost to France and Croatia. France is a WC finalist and Croatia could be the other one.

Argentine news.

Sampaoli will manage the U-20 team in the Valencia tournament at the end of July. He knows most of the U-20 team since they were the so-called "sparring partners" to the main NT that travelled with them to Spain and Russia.

Nicolas Gonzalez, a 20-yer old forward, was sold from Argentinos Jrs (an Argentine first division team) for $8.5 million dollars to VfB Stuttgart. The significance of this transition is that it broke the Maradona transfer fee of Argentinos Jrs of $8 million dollars, some years ago.

Pablo Aimar, the U-!7 coach, has called to form part of the team the only player that plays outside Argentina for the U-17 team. He is 14-year old Luka Romero, a jewel, that plays in Mallorca, Spain. His Parents are Argentine, was born in Mexico, and has Spanish passport. Since he is under age, he can still opt to play for Argentina, Mexico, or Spain in the future.

Croatia match: Rebic was on a Yellow and should probably have received a second YC before he scored the Caballero gift. From that point on it went downhill for ARG.

France: Which other team has scored 3 goals against France?

A WC contender needs a world class GK and a good defense. ARG did not have either

South America could have fielded a WC contender by combining Uruguay and Argentina teams.
Brazil was good enough but FIFA referees clearly did not like Neymar diving and simulating. With a well behaved Neymar, Casemiro playing, and more luck with finishing (Paulinho, Coutinho, ..) they should have beaten Belgium.

Point about media talk regarding 'European dominance': France looks like best team because of African born players. Future of football may belong to faster and more athletic players, like in basketball.

Maybe something to think about when planning Barça's recruitment of new players: can small and quick technical players still be competitive 5-10 years from now?

This World Cup is the triumph of the "Anti-Football." Now most of the teams do not just park the bus, all the players hang from the horizontal as well. The only way to combat the 10-0-0 formations is with the long ball, which produces four possible outcomes: (1) is nothing, so try again (2) a free kick due to a foul (3) a corner kick (4) an outbound re-start. This means a set-play. At least 60% of the goals scored in this WC have come from set-plays. In order to be successful at this type of anti-football you need tall and strong players - the taller the better. The teams with the most African descendent players are the most successful. Croatia is the exception.

Most experts tell us, South Americans, to learn from the Europeans if we want to improve. I believe in football not anti-football. Furthermore, we cannot learn how to be taller. All I can say is wait for Qatar-2022. Football might suffer a set-back, but it always triumphs in the end.

Sampaoli has changed his mind and is refusing to coach a U-20 team in the Non-FIFA sanctioned tournament in Valencia, Spain. Lots of teams are not allowing their players to partake in a Non-FIFA tournament. Therefore, AFA is getting ready to fire Sampaoli, so it seems.

Boca Jr, of Argentina, has renewed the contract of forward Cristian Pavón increasing his salary. There has been a lot of interest from many European teams for Pavón's services. However, Boca has decided to keep the 21-year old player for at least one more year. His new rescission clause is of €50Mils.

Pekerman is also rumored.

The one day I do not follow the news, it is the same day that Sampaoli resigns to the NT! I won't follow the news tomorrow. Maybe we get a new coach!

Pekerman is rumored for the Manager of all the National Teams. Gallardo and Gareca are the frontrunners for the main team. However, who knows? These are just rumors.
