Likely to be a money problem. The afa own Tata and his staff money, and the staff is suing them for that cash. Argentina is doomed.

Batistuta says Higuain should be dropped for Icardi, at least temporarily.

“The number 9 has to be the one who scores the goals.

“I like Higuain very much, but unfortunately he isn’t contributing the way he does in Europe. He’s playing very well for Juve and is in the running for a lot of trophies, but if he needs a rest then why not give Icardi a chance?

“This is a national team, not a club team, so therefore you have to live in the moment.”

Bad coaches have been almost a permanent fixture in Messi's NT career. Some that pretty much singlehandedly brought Argentina down in tournaments (Maradona) while plenty of other shit ones like Tata and Bauza. Sabella, who never seemed to be more than an OK conservative coach, brought out Messi's best spell of form with the NT. This might finally be a big change.

To put it plainly, Sampaoli will have his work cut out for him. Argentina's squad are not stronger now than in previous years. He'll have to deal with an even older and declining Masche in the WC next year and Messi himself will be around 31 at that time (!!!). The others like Higuain, Aguero, and Di Maria haven't ever been that reliable but they too are not getting younger. Aguero and especially Mascherano could potentially not be starters at the club level next season leading into the WC. Another key issue is other NT's having much deeper and younger squads (France, Germany, Brazil, Spain, etc.) all of whom have shown themselves as potential champions. Dybala is a very bright spot and Argentina must hope that he keeps fit and in form over the next year, he is an intelligent player that could finally give good support to Messi going forward.

What other Argentine players could/should be included in the squad or played more? I'm not Icardi's biggest fan but if he can prove to be a reliable finisher in important situations then Higuain should 100% be tossed. Rulli is another option, he's always seemed like a talented keeper in La Liga.

Argentina should go for three man defense and Sampaoli might be the guy to implement that. They have good cbs with Musacchio and Otamendi and Funes Mori is solid too. Masche could also play there if there is another solution in central midfield.
Biggest benefit would be getting Rojo and other weak fullback options out of the lineup.

Icardi has to come in.

Even if Higuain is the superior player, he's just not up to the job psychologically and Icardi is the kind of guy to be in your face to the opposition which could help him and Argentina

and damn Batigol looks old....

Rojo is a good CB. It is kinda like with Mathieu.

He's brainless. Sporting fans were happy when they sold him. He works in Man Utd now because he plays for a Mourinho team and has become their henchman.

Ramos is brainless as well. Does not stop him from being a decent CB. There were many crazy center backs who had good careers. My point is that in a proper system, Rojo will perform just as well as he does in Man Utd. A back three of Rojo, Otamendi and Masche seems pretty solid to me. Funes Mori, Musacchio, Mercado and Garay are pretty good too. Just no Demichelis please.

Looks like it's actually about to happen with Sampaoli negotiating with AFA to become their next coach.
