To be fair they are nothing with him either.

Trophyless last season and on track to do the same this campaign.

Benezma is a brilliant player, often underrated, but you cannot compete for the major titles if he's your best player.

Without Benz they finish outside of top 4 last season. But essentially, you're correct. Obviously he isn't good enough to carry them to titles on his own, like Messi does here.

Being the only player who showed marginal improvement, and in an aspect of his game that made him the weakest forward in the team to start with, isn't usually what makes a guy "astonishing" on this level.

Barcelona have Messi Suarez and now Griezmann. Now put each one of them as the only star in different teams, they won't be winning shit. to win titles you need a very good team.


Real Madrid have only Benzema and no team behind him, people who are hating him are lost cases.

benzema has stepped up since CR left, sure, but he is no world-beater. he is simply doing what you would expect the no.9 at real madrid does. and even then its not enough to radically improve madrid or make them CL contenders.

Honestly, he couldn't lace Van Nistelrooy's boots in terms of meaningful contribution to our frontline.

It says so much when people overrate him to such a silly extent as to say "he's our best player" or "we'd be nowhere without him". Guarantee you, if you took Benzema and stuck 3-4 other seniors used to playing with him on the bench, we'd not lose any efficiency at all if there were ample substitute options. All it takes is casting your mind to what Real Madrid were achieving when we had hungry Vazquez, Isco, Kovacić, Morata and James rotating in for Benzema and Ronaldo against bottom 10 teams. Compare that time from 16/17 with what we have to rely on offensively right now. Difference is night and day.
