Benzema: Mourinho treats me like a son

"I'm not the Benzema who has just joined RM 3 years ago, the shy and confused guy. I am now a grown, calm, happy and physically stronger player. I've grown as a player and as a man."

"Three years ago when I was leaving Lyon I was very young. I went alone, for the first time I left my Lyon home for a longer period of time. I had to get used to the new team, new city. Initially I had problems with my groin, I used to strain it all the time. The pressure of living up to the hype of a star has also been an obstacle."

"Today I'm a grown person and player. I'm much calmer and stronger. I've learned to control the pressure of the big games like the Clasicos or the Champions League. I thank Mourinho for this. He treats me like a son. During one of the first training sessions he came up to me and said, in French: "How are you?" He also added: "I hope you'll leave behind the first year Benzema." I've noticed he's got a thing for me. When he came to Madrid, I had problems with my back, I've gained weight and he was disappointed with no World Cup call-up. He told me, he needs to strengthen me during trainings. He never left me aside, even when I did not the right things to deserve to play. He just forced me to train harder and during the press conference he provoked me to work even harder, to get myself noticed. That work paid off in the end."

"To play in Real Madrid you have to be a champion. Pressure is constant, you play against best teams and you cannot fail. This every day pressure forces you to stay in good form. I worked here twice as hard as in Lyon."

"Ballon D'Or? Of course it's one of my goals. Every player has to dream of it. However the individual titles come after team titles like the league, Champions League, Copa Del Rey... But yes, Ballon D'Or is my dream."

"What Messi has that I don't? Firstly, he plays 90 minutes per game. I never play 90 minutes. He also has the team setup to play for him... However I do like Messi's game, he's a great player and I really like to watch him play. And to get Ballon D'Or, you have to shine in the tournaments like Euro or the World Cup."

"Supporters? Madrid is a different dimension. People around here live football. Stadium is amazing and everyone who comes to the game in white shirts.. When you're on the pitch and you see 90,000 people in the same colours, chanting, supporting you, it's something out of this world, you have to live through it, you can't describe it."

"Clasicos? When you go out of the hotel, there already is 5000 people waiting for you. You have to be escorted to the bus and when you get to the stadium people come from all sides, the bus can't go more than 40km/h, it's nuts. Before the game I concentrate, I think of how I can make a difference and during the game I wait for that chance. I played in many derby matches between Lyon and Saint-Etienne, but these are nothing compared to these Derby."

"First season criticism? In Spain everything is blown out of proportion. You make two mistakes - you're a zero. You score twice - you're a star. There was criticism that hurt me, but more than anything, people around me were hurt. My father, mother, friends, agent... Criticism is like praise, you have to accept it if you want to stay above it."

"Spanish? Everything has changed. I talk in it for 1.5-2 years. I understand everything that is said in the locker room, I can hang out with friends more often. Beforehand it was them who were talking, laughing and they could well have been laughing at me. At the start, I was in my corner. Now I talk, I laugh and I'm happy I can do that."

He didn't mention the part about teabagging Higgy regularly.

Your consistency is hilarious. I mean I admit, you do crawl beneath my skin, like now but holy shit you are consistent.

I love how he took a dig at Messi. Now I like him more.

I like his game the most among RM players, shame he is such an immense douche.
