    R.I.P. Trifon Ivanov

    Trifon Ivanov was a legendary defender from Bulgaria's golden generation that made it 1994 World Cup semi-final.



    Ivanov died yesterday aged 50.

    Damn. That Bulgarian team was one of the first things I remember rooting for in any sports, and not least because of him. Sad to see him go.

    He was a legend off the pitch too. Smoked and drank at halve times and proud owner of a tank.

    He was also on the verge to sign with Barca when he was still playing for Betis. After Ronald Koeman was injured with ALC, Barcelona tried to sign Trifon Ivanov on loan. He asked the president to let him go to the Camp Nou, but he refused, because Trifon was a key player for Betis. I'd give one of my kidneys to see Stoichkov & Trifon wearing Barca's shirt in a same time.
