Lovren recently has been glorified by Liverpool fans in a mocking fashion, because for 90% of his time there he's been trash. Even when he's playing well nowadays he always has a huge brainfart in him that almost ends up costing his team a goal.

Anyone that genuinely believes Lovren is World Class or close to World Class need to get their heads checked.

The Spurs game is not the "only" reason. His track record since coming to Liverpool is. He came as the revered Southampton transfer along with Lallana to replace Daniel Agger and flopped so hard they had to go back to the market multiple times to cover up the hole to have any hopes of keeping Coutinho long term. They didn't.

19 clean sheets in 44 matches. Not even every other match.

Basically they had a good spring and with VVD introduction you could even bother starting to count them. He stopped them being top heavy and it's a good record. Not "insane" at all.

Lovren is basically the same as what Pique is without a vocal senior next to him, which is what makes the rumor so funny given he wouldn't come here to be 4th and probably wouldn't be happy to be a rotation CB either, nor would it make any sense. So either he'd be replacing Pique or relegating Lenglet to 4th CB. Nonsense move either way. 25-40 million for a CB? Liverpool would just let Gomez have the spot and buy someone like Harry Maguire. Sorted.

Maguire is one option and has expressed a desire to move up from Leicester. You could probably find others across the Premiership, Bundesliga or France relatively easily. Depends on the price and what Lovren would actually want to do. If his priority is trying to win the league then he'd obviously stay, but if he gets a decent shiny 3-4 year deal in Barcelona depending how desperate they are to try and ensure safety of their campaign by bringing in another defender, then it'd be his only shot ever, so he'd at least consider it. Hypothetically.

Picking a really poor time to pick this line of argument given the amount of key players that switched teams last winter. Were Giroud and Sanchez not key to Arsenal's top4 battle? 2 of their topscorers. Would Borussia ever let their topscorer go if they didn't have a strategy to follow and remain in top4 for the rest of the year, while preparing deals for the next season? All depends on the deal. And on what Lovren would say. If he's not vain he'd stay, but much like Lopetegui was lured with a once-in-a-lifetime offer, same thing can happen to others, especially people like him who are dying to make a living as a defender who's on a wage 4x lower than other top stars.
