Raphael Varane

He improved gradually as the game went on, but my oh my, how poor he can be without Ramos.

He doesn't play with Ramos for France. His problem is the same old problem that is known to make top class players play like crap. Issues with motivation and focus, usually having won many titles.

No wonder Barca and Madrid players are the most that are plagued by issues like this one. They're padded with all kinds of trophies, both for club and country. Sometimes not even a great manager can change this. Sometimes a new challenge in a different team is the only remedy.

Sure, he's less focused and seems to have gotten moany about his role in the club. It's not like Ramos is a non-factor in this equation. It's difficult to not be tired of the guy who as captain is supposed to be an example of reliability and stability. That said, most of the time this season when one was poor the other picked it up. Most times. Except those select few runs of bad results when we just couldn't stop conceding and would not score on the other end.

It's pretty clear why he's frustrated and can't get focused. It's not like he thinks his mates upfront will pick him up like many others (Marcelo etc) do/did.

Should probably give him opportunity to play without Ramos first. He's never known life without him. It's part of anyone's maturation to fuck up a good amount of times before you get it right when you're left on your own at work when manager leaves.

If Zidane is smart, he'll facilitate Militao and Varane playing together often enough, even at the cost of the next league.

Was disastrous against Ajax without Ramos aswell. Id look for other defenders when Ramos inevitably retires.

Yh happened a lot. What can you do. Whole team is hurt when Ramos isn't there, they just need practice without him. Real didn't look all that great when Cristiano was injured either, 'tis what happens when everpresent players go out.

Wasn't he supposed to become the next Maldini after that first Clasico? Insane early bloomer.

Probably the Country effect, but Varane for France and Real is like night and day difference in terms of Leadership.

With France he plays great and does an excellent job leading the back line while with Real he looks shaky and low on confidence without Ramos being next to him and is far more prone to making silly errors.

Still think he’s world class. He’s also very pacy for a CB. He will lead the backline when Ramos retires
