If that shot was stopped it would be very rare and that would be called an outrageous save. So maybe that wasn't unsavable if you are going into technicals but it was entirely ok for him to not save that.

Fair enough.
Yes it would have been a great, even extraordinary save but we all have seen saves like that.
They do happen, so the wise fan should rarely or never say "never"...

can't wait for the advocates to come and say it was "unstoppable". Ridiculous logic. Either he stops balls or they are unsavable. that was a weak header but Stegen was not standing in the middle of the goal, moved slowly and made the fatal mistake of jumping too fast.

He could have done better position-wise yes, but I still think that it majorly was Gomes' fault with his piss poor effort in the air (he jumped like 10cm high).

But yeah, Ter Stegen could have done better and moved more to the far post when he saw the height of the cross.

Good effort.

So what exactly is your point?

So De Gea would have saved that?

my point is : another soft goal.
edit : any world class keeper could have saved that

"Another" soft goal? Really?

Clearly any world class keeper couldn't have saved it because ours didn't. If given another chance at such a shot there's a good chance that even Mats would have.

Barking up the wrong tree.

He's got things he need to iron out to become a top 3 GK, but he's improved this season and the least of our worries. Really, the least of our worries.

Our midfield is slow and not very agile. It will get overrun by faster, agile and more hungry midfields. We're missing Dembele and while Deulofeu got energy, his end product is often lacking. Suarez just like Rakitic is playing like he's auditioning for The Walking Dead.

And Valverde seem hell bent on not using Denis even though he's showing to have a decent understanding with Messi. Never using Roberto in the midfield, often benching Semedo as if that will help him integrating to the team and gaining an understanding with his team mates.

It's also possible that his positioning was off because he saw that Gomes has failed in the air to cover at least a part of the goal and Nikolau was able to direct the ball in either corner.

From what I saw on the replay, the entire team slacked off or were positioning themselves not ready for the corner. Which would explain why no one marked the guy and ter Stegen was off his positioning.

His positioning was not even off. I do not know in what kind of world some people live in. There would be no goals in football if goalkeepers saved all the shots you think they (or MAtS that is) should.
