my world 11 would be:

--------------------------------xavi-----iniesta
-------------------marcelo-----vidic-----pique-----d.alves
----------------------------------cassillas
(...) and Carrick was faced with Xavi and Iniesta coming past him, and Messi in behind him. That’s 3rd, 2nd and 1st in last year’s World Footballer of the Year award forming a triangle around him – he desperately needed help (...)

Barca hold a key advantage here again, however, where Busquets has carved out a niche in shadowing deep-lying attackers. He knows what they eat for breakfast.

Team should have been
Ronaldo---------RVP-----------Messi
---------Xavi-------Inestia-----------
-------------Alonso-------------------
Lahm------Vidic------Pique--------Alves
---------------Neuer-------------------
My team would be:
Ronaldo---------------RvP---------------Messi
----------------------------------------------
---------Iniesta----------------Xavi-----------
--------------------Busquets------------------
-----------------------------------------------
Lahm-------Kompany--------Pique---------Alves
---------------------Neuer---------------------
Granted that Pique wasn't at his best in recent months but I'm biased and go by potential. Apart from that: Pique @ 80 % > 99 % of any other CBs.![]()

Alonso has never been a holding midfielder and never played that role alone either. At Liverpool he had Mascherano partnering him to do the dirt work. In the national team he has Busquets on his side. In Real Madrid he has Khedira. He is to immobile to play that role on his own. Hence why Aragones dropped him for Senna back in 2008 when he played 4-1-4-1. He's always been a deep-lying central midfielder, not a defensive / holding midfielder. Just saying.

I actually agree with this team..it amazes me how Neuer's excelent year hasn't been recognized(only VV or VDS if he wouldn't had retired could compare with the german GK)..the same could be said about Lahm who is one of the most constant players in the last years(his role in the Bayern team is as important as the one Alves has for us) and instead of recognize his value they prefered Ramos(who hasn't played on LB even once in his life) or Marcelo(the one player for whom I always pray to see on the field against us and who has helped us in the last years to score at least 6 goals against RM).

I can't see Thiago Silva anywhere in this XI, bit strange..
