    Default Guardiola - Jose's No.1

Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola rates Real Madrid counterpart Jose Mourinho as the best coach in world football at the current time.

While Guardiola enjoyed a distinguished playing career for Barca and also represented Spain, Mourinho never played at a high level.

Guardiola nevertheless considers his opposite number at the Santiago Bernabeu to be the No.1 tactician despite their intense rivalry in the Primera Liga.

"It is not necessary to have played football to become a great coach," Guardiola explained.

"[Arrigo] Sacchi changed this sport without having played, while Mourinho is probably the best coach in the world.

"To have been in dressing rooms before can help in certain situations, but to not have been can also have advantages."

    Future hopes

Guardiola then admitted that he would not go on coaching forever, but hopes that he can choose when to stop rather than being sacked.

"When I was a player I knew the moment when I could not give any more at the same level," he continued.

"It was when I felt tired and I know that as a trainer the same thing will happen. I know that day will come when I am tired of it and I will leave.

"I hope that day comes because normally in the life of a coach they sack you before that because you lose games.

"At the moment I can choose, but I know that it will not always be like this. If I lose then they will kick me out."

Alfredo Di Stéfano, Real Madrid's greatest ever player and the honorary president, spoke out. "Barcelona's football was simply brilliant," he said in his weekly column. "Their superiority was there for the whole planet to see: the whites were cornered all game. Barcelona play football and dance. They treat the ball with adoration and respect, almost nurturing it. To see this team in action is a delight."

When Mourinho insisted that he and Guardiola were the same, the Barcelona coach said: "I will have to revise my behaviour then."

Pep is a bigger troll than Mourinho. Who would have guessed that?

"3:42 minutes played and still 0-0 against Almeria. Time to worry."
(...) and Carrick was faced with Xavi and Iniesta coming past him, and Messi in behind him. That’s 3rd, 2nd and 1st in last year’s World Footballer of the Year award forming a triangle around him – he desperately needed help (...)

Barca hold a key advantage here again, however, where Busquets has carved out a niche in shadowing deep-lying attackers. He knows what they eat for breakfast.
