So, who watches these events? Currently there are World Championships in Athletics underway in Daegu.
Short distance running is getting dominated by the Jamaicans with Usain Bolt for men, Shelly Ann Fraser and Kerron Stewart for women taking most of the glory. On the other hand long distance running is dominated by eastern Africans from Ethiopia and Kenya eg. Kenenisa Bekele.
Ofc for a long time it was a show of Americans and Russians only with Marion Jones and the infamous Tim Montgomery winning stuff 10 years ago.
Other disciplines like pole vault is in clear domination of Isinbaeva regularly getting 5.00m or so, unless her mental state is fucked up. Discus throw found a new contender from Poland (had to bring it up) Piotr Malachowski, but usually again, Eastern Europe, Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and these guys are the people winning discus, hammer (Polish Anita Wlodarczyk holding a newly set world record), put shot or javelin.
Triple jump and long jump are quite mixed with Americans, Germans, French and Russians being the best the last time I've watched it.
And then there are many other disciplines like steeplechase or 50km long marathons which honestly I don't know much about, except the fact that some young Polish geezer has won something recently in steeplechase if I remember correctly.
Back to World Championships in Daegu. Usain Bolt has fucked up and got disqualified in the final of 100m sprint with other Jamaican Blake winning the run with 9.92s. The biggest surprise so far I think.
