    CA River Plate

    Follow the adventures of River as they try to escape from the purgatory of the Primera B Nacional.

    First game of the season on now, vs Chacarita Juniors. River is up 0-1, goal by JM Diaz.

    Almost an entirely new team being fielded by Almeyda, only Diaz and Maidana featured last season:
    Chichizola;
    Abecasis-Alayes-Maidana-Díaz;
    Sánchez-Domingo-Aguirre-Ocampos;
    Domínguez-Cavenaghi

    Yeah frustrating for rp. Dominguez has potential out there on the left. That time he left two defenders for dead was something else. That's the play I believe where he fed it to Cavenaghi and instead of killing it quickly with this left, he chose to awkwardly hit it with his natural right foot and missed the sitter.

    ... but THAT SHARK!?!?! Looked everywhere couldn't find a pic of it. Like a 100 foot perfect green and yellow shark. OMG

    Well it doesn't seem like we have any pibes who are strikers comparable to say, Crespo, Falcao or even Cavegol himself. Problems aside River still has the best academy this side of la masia, plenty of great wingers and attacking midfielders who can score, but no natural finishers who look elite.

    And google image search "Aldosivi tiburon" has lead me to this :

    I hate those bastards right now, but man this is why Argentine football is so awesome.

    About young strikers River have two very promising strikers. Giovanni Simeone who was coached at the Angel Labruna school and Federico Andrada.

    And yes, Gio Simeone is the son of who you are thinking of.

    Nolan was there any chance you saw the 1996 Copa Libertadores finals?

    Really this is just pure class. Crespo had tears of joy by just thinking about that! It was indeed a memorable night for Los Millonarios

    I mean I didn't really follow the sport besides the World Cup at that time, I've since then watched the final though, considering that team is like a who's who of some of my favourites - Francescoli, Ortega, Crespo, Salas, Sorin, Gallardo, Almeyda.

    Rest in peace Gonzalo Saucedo. Stabbed to death at River Plate's game a few days ago.

    Heard about this earlier.

    Barra brava scum need to be wiped out. These guys aren't fans, they are mobsters using football clubs as their rallying point.

    If Passarella has any balls he will join Independiente in trying to eliminate these people from attending matches. Unfortunately who knows how many of their equally scummy friends still work for that club, the taint of Aguilar is still fresh.

    Is River's Barra Brava group called Los Borrachos del Tablón?
