ronaldo can mesh with anyone because his style of play doesn't conflict with others. throw 2017 ronaldo onto this team and barca run riot through europe, with dembele and griezmann's full potential being unleashed. that's not happening with messi

The 2017 Ronaldo who had a peak Modric/Kroos and peak Marcelo and Carvajal banging in ACCURATE AERIAL crosses?

Lol, Alba can't even do aerial crosses, and the rest wouldn't even think about crossing.

Stop this nonsense.

EDIT: Go look at how many of his goals v Bayern, Atletico, and Juve were from crosses in 2017.

Even last season, I think 4 of his 5 goals versus Atletico and Ajax were headers from crosses. And the other one was a pen. Lol.

CR7 himself knows he only fits a certain type of play style. Which is why he joined Juve and not a possession oriented/proactive team like Bayern.

Ronaldo would do nothing in our "system ". We don't cross the ball or counter which makes Ronaldo useless.

Ronaldo creates havoc with his runs and speed. He can't use those with Barca because we build up very slowly.

that's my point. that issue gets addressed with ronaldo inserted in the lineup. the team has got plenty of good crossers (dembele, alba, etc.) who are unable to utilize their gifts because we don't have anyone with ronaldo's aerial presence.

and with ronaldo in the starting lineup, the team would have cr7, dembele and griez to counter with, as opposed to what we have now which is frankly embarassing whenever suarez and messi try to break on the counter

Truth is, as much as we want Griezmann to work and we can be pissed he's only now getting his first game as our ST, he was a bad fit to begin with. Never should've been bought in the first place. Other players not wanting him was just the cherry on top really. Why do we insist on buying players who then need to play out of position for us? Since we needed/wanted a striker, we should've gone for an actual striker (Lautaro would've been perfect to rotate with Suarez this season and actually replace him as starter by start of next season). Now i'm guessing we'll try and swap Griezmann for Neymar in the summer for sure. Why not wait another year then and just buy a striker or a true LW last summer? We keep putting pressure on ourselves and the players we buy, by aimlessly going for the biggest revenue player, Griezmann was the one big star of La Liga left, after CR gone, and of course we had to buy him, even though we knew he was gonna need to re-adapt to a position he's never played, at least not in Atletico.

We keep buying CAMs or second forwards, when there's no such positions in our default 4-3-3 rotation, and playing them as forwards (either on the wings or up front). In case of Griezmann is literally the same as Coutinho, we're just hoping he can overcome everything and be great for us in a position he never excelled at or even played before in his previous club. And then you have Coutinho being the new Iniesta (lol) and Griezmann playing up front, even though he's basically a lesser Messi. If we insist on playing 4-3-3, we need to be looking for true wingers and true strikers, nothing more, nothing less, simple as that.

I feel bad for the bloke. Don't have any negative feeling towards him like I did with Dembele and Coutinho.

He simply found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Attitude and work rate is excellent. Not much else unfortunately.

It's actually hilarious how so many armchair forums coaches were able to accurately predict griezmanns issues. Barcelona's scouting network undone by barcaforum

He really does seem lost. Left, right or middle, he can not catch a break on the forward line. Out of sync with Messi and everyone else and really not providing anything special. I am still waiting for a world class player to show up. I am starting to feel that Valverde can't be held accountable for his performances.

is that why Dybala scored 5 goals in the league last season and 22 the year before without CR, Benzema also seems to be scoring more now without him

1st April 2019:

Good luck having Messi and Griez in the same lineup. They occupy the same positions on the pitch and have similar movements. People who advocate this galactico signing don't understand basic football.

Realistically he will stay here next season at the very least. So, how do we make him work? Maybe try to get a cf/lw hybrid, who can lead the line? For example a mobile centre forward ala Lautaro Martinez, who was very impressive against Dortmund (while playing more advanced than Lukaku)?

Something like:
Martinez - Griezmann
Messi

What alternatives are left? Sticking him to the left and hope for the best? He doesnt have the qualities of a cf, so thats that.

We seem to have made a huge mistake.. he needs to reinvent himself if he is to succeed at Barca.

problem is, his performances from the left cant justify him starting there ahead of a player with the actual pace we sorely lack in Dembele.. despite Dembouz being inconsistent.

unlike Coutinho, i thank him and respect him for his workrate and effort but it won't workout here. another huge L from Barto
