As I see it, Lakers already lost the first spot in the west. It will be very tough if they face the spurs in the western conference finals.

Boston has to beat Heat/Magic to get to us. I do agree with you though, Boston is just playing a much higher quality of basketball than the Lakers are.

Since when did the regular season matter to the Fakers? Boston will get hacked to bits by the Heat in the playoffs while the refs look the other way, and they will be damaged goods when they reach the finals.

Actually, regular season did matter a bit for the Lakers. They care enough to get first spot in the west, but not enough to get the best record in the whole league. Against Boston, home court is crucial since it's already given that it's going to be a 7 game series.

LA can beat Boston without home court, but Pau and Bynum will need to have monster games ... and Artest will need to actually play D. Kobe looked like he was the only one trying out there.
