    Xavi.

he's an all-time great and better than pretty much everyone else ever at that position.

Scholes isn't THAAAAAT far behind, though. consider that he peaked about 8 years ago in a team that was much more direct than United currently and certainly more direct than us. and he was often played out of position. the fact that he can still get it done at 37 is simply ridiculous and a testament to how awesome he is. Xavi would say the same.

The question is not so absurd, Scholes was an epic player, but Xavi certainly wins.

A United fan making an absurd comparison, what other nonsense can one come up with in that vein?
See, its posts like this which irk me.

if you browse neutral forums, loads of forums have Scholes vs Xavi threads and non of the neutrals said that the comparison is outrageous.

maybe if Scholes played for us at his peak right now we would be saying he is better
but I guess history decided who is better, its Xavi...what he achieved with Barca and Spain is beyond any comparison
//but I agree, they are pretty close as players, they are both awesome

you can understand why Barcelona fans would "WTF?!" at first though, surely?

I mean most of these people hate United so wouldn't have been paying too much attention to them when Scholes was in his prime which was a long time ago. so they'd look at Scholes now, and Xavi now, and they'd rightly think it's ludicrous to compare them. but comparing Scholes then and Xavi now? it's not SO ludicrous. still, you probably should have emphasised the fact that you mean Scholes from 8 years ago rather than Scholes from now. I understand that you shouldn't have to spell it out so clearly, but you know how it is with football forums; they're mostly full of idiots.

Well, it did say in the title that it was Xavi vs SCHOLES IN HIS PRIME. Last time I checked, his prime was 1999-2004 and not now. Of course it would be silly to compare Scholes of now, he's 37 and just come out of retirement to bolster a midfield hit by injury and mediocrity.

These are the sort of pointless discussions brought up in an thinly veiled attempt to boost one player over another or to undercut the most successful central midfielder in generations...Scholes was great, he's a United legend but it's the sort of English drivel of hyping their stars that nauseate me...Nevermind that they are two very different players, what criteria would be used to even compare them?...Goals?...Big deal, Xavi isn't a goalscorer...Passing, vision & assists?...It's like the a 'cold night in Stoke' argument with English fans...Pumping players from a bygone era, it's like a desperate attempt to maintain some relevancy when Spanish football rules the planet

And no, I don't hate United, I despise fluffing English footy

Spot on, I could never figure out why people say they're similar, they're very different players, scholes is much more suited to the english game, xavi more to the spanish one which is a much more technical game. I always like Scholes but he shouldn't even be compared to Xavi, and looking at the respective players achievements you certainly don't see why they should even be compared in that area. Xavi is a pioneer, certainly the best at what he does (IMO the only one who does that what does), it's silly to compare anyone to him.

Yeah, yeah we had this before, certainly Scholes is better than Xavi, Beckham better than Iniesta, Nicky Butt better than Xabi Alonso, Lampard better than Iniesta, and Shearer better than Villa. That's why England from Scholes generation looked so amazing that can't beat any decent opponent. Giants!!
Shearer was better than Villa though.
