BILLIONAIRE BACKS UEFA BUDGET
Abramovich keen to stop big spenders
By Dominic Raynor
Chelsea's billionaire owner Roman Abramovich is backing a UEFA proposal that would sabotage the efforts of big-spending Manchester City to dominate English and European football.
Abramovich, who has spent approximately £700m on transforming the Blues into one of football's big hitters over the last six years, has been named by UEFA president Michel Platini as one of the key agitators behind his proposal to limit football club's spending power.
City owner Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who bought the Premier League club in September 2008, has spent £120m in this transfer window alone and it would appear that Abramovich is eager to prevent City from following the very same route that he used to make the Blues a football powerhouse.
The Russian is backing Platini's plan that proposes clubs can only spend what they earn in football revenues and that any club which does not balance the books in the next three years could be kicked out of European competitions.
The UEFA chief said: "It's mainly the owners that asked us to do something: Roman Abramovich, Silvio Berlusconi [Milan] , Massimo Moratti [Internazionale]. They do not want to fork out any more.
"Manchester City can spend £300m if they want to but if they are not breaking even in three years then they cannot play in European competition.
"Roman Abramovich is a football person and passionate about the game. He loves football. He has come to me and said that we must do something about this.
"It doesn't matter if one team doesn't agree, because this is what the clubs want."
Chelsea limited spending to £23m in the transfer window this summer as Abramovich felt the effects of the global credit crunch

Really ? i mean come on .. there is new boys in town and now Roman is acting all Wenger like ?

Pathetic? Not at all. You people always seem to forget that our plan from the very start was to break even and have the club earn it's own money which it can then spend on players and such, and he is obviously confident that will end up happening, hence the backing of UEFA's plan.
Plus, it's a smart idea, who cares if it makes him a hypocrite.![]()

Break even in the news papers pages ... u haven't made a single profit since Roman took over.. i also remember the plan was to break even in 2009which as always was a loss.
u haven't made a single progress since than , Roman can't compete that's why he joined the Italians who have huge debts

Actually it was 2010(uncrealistic but still, can't hurt to be optimistic), but at the end of the day our debt is going down each year so that's progress.
He ran out of cash? I think 7b pounds is a fair bit of cash... He just wants the club to be run the way it's meant to be run, by making it's own cash(he tightened up his wallet strings LONG before the economic crisis, in case you all forgot?). When that'll happen, who knows? LOL.
Let's just say Roman has realised the error of his ways and finally sees that overspending is naughty!![]()

Man City haven't nearly as much as Madrid so why all the hoohah about them?

Well City are the new kids on the block, and their owners have pretty much said they will spend non stop until they are the best. I personally don't see City as the worst(they would be if their bids for Kaka, Buffon and Messi went through), but in the English media they are always going to target City, not to mention Platini has a ridiculous hate for England, so it's inevitable they will be at the forefront of this.
Plus with regards to this whole thing with Roman, he is the owner of an English side, and the English media will always say the reason he's backing UEFA is cause he's scared of City. The usual tabloid BS.

I think Roman's learnt his lesson, after all, it's after the Sheva deal that he decided to spend less.
