I just realized how similar the Netherlands NT and Real Madrid are. They're flat track bullies that steamroll past weak teams but when they meet Spain (Barcelona) they turn into defensive thugs.

But the difference is that Madrid plays a rough aggressive game based on power, and the Netherlands NT always try to play a passing game and keep possession like Barcelona.

I think that game was rough from both sides. Of course the Dutch team was a bit more rough with De Jong etc. but Spain was playing rough too. It's just the incredible tension of the final I guess, and the fact Spain was the first attacking/controlling team they faced. They were kinda forced to play rougher to avoid being destroyed.

Totally disagree, the football Holland played during the World Chamionship was absolutely disgusting. De Jong and Van Bommel are probably the two players I hate the most (all over the world). They were lucky to get to the final and during the final they basically raped football for 120 minutes (so the comparison with Real Madrid isn't that bad )

They clearly made a decision to play defensive/negative football against Spain, must have decided that they weren't going to beat Spain with their usual attacking game. Generally, they are a technical team like Spain, with the key difference being a quicker more vertical game.

I don't like defensive/negative football, but this was just aggresive football (which is even a lot worse). They played bad the biggest part of the tournament and they didn't deserve their win against Brazil.
