Here is my Basque XI then,

    ---------------Gorkha-------------------
    Iraola---Amore---Ińigo Martinez---Del Horno*
    ----------X.Alonso----J.Martinez------------
    ----------------Herrera----------------------
    Susaeta-------Llorente---------------Muniain

    *Monreal, if he qualifies..

With minor exceptions, thats pretty much the A.Bilbao team.
Great job, I couldn't do it myself since I've seen to little from the basque sides. Their right side is very impressive, Iraola is among the best RBs in La Liga and Susaeta is good, but I'd like to see Prieto there. The midfield is full of class too. The only real weakness is Del Horno, IMO.

So Euro 2012 will be here soon, what starting 11 and formation would you like Spain to play?

    Iker
    Ramos---Pique---Puyol---Alba
    Busq-------(Thiago)
    Silva-------Xavi--------Ini
    ---------Llorente---------

Villa instead of Llorente if fit. And Thiago at DM if capable enough which it looks like he is. And then Alba to do more attacking then Ramos
With this formation I could see them struggling to score though.

The other thing they could do would be to play 433.

    What do you guys think?

I think Xabi will play with Busi there, although Cesc would be a better option.

Xabi can't hold all alone... Busi for Xabi

Silva on right. Fabregas on left(linking up with Iniesta & Alba).

    That would be awesome.

Better thing would be to play Mata on left and use fabregas as impact sub

Silva should play in the center imho. He will be just like Messi (not as good as him obviously) but linking up with Xaviniesta would be orgasmic. Constraining Silva on 1 wing wouldnt be a good idea, giving him free movement on the wing wont be a good idea either so I think its best he plays center.

    Casilas
    Ramos-Puyol-Pique-Alba
    Busi
    Xavi-Silva-Iniesta
    Villa-Negredo/Soldado/Llorente

    or

    Casilas
    Ramos-Puyol-Pique-Alba
    Busi-Alonso
    Xavi-Silva-Iniesta
    Villa/Llorente/Negredo/Soldado

Xavi and Andres in the same positions as in Barca, Silva a bit forward like a 2nd striker. Sadly this system lacks wing play but the overwhelming power in the midfield should suffice imho. Playing with 2 strikers who can go on the wings with Silva going forward a bit would be just as great. Then Pedrito, Mata and Navas come in.
Thank you Pep, forever in our hearts!!!

I hate the double-pivot but I can understand that it gives a lot more defensive stability and that's what you want in a Cup competition. But then again it forces Iniesta out wide where he isn't at his best. And you don't want your best player to play out of position either, so ... yeah, I'd call that a dilemma.

    Ramos----------Puyol--------Pique----------Alba
    ------------------------------------------------
    --------------------Busquets-------------------
    -----------Xavi-------------------Iniesta--------
    ------------------------------------------------
    Pedro----------------Cesc------------------Villa

    Barca style all the way!
(...) and Carrick was faced with Xavi and Iniesta coming past him, and Messi in behind him. That’s 3rd, 2nd and 1st in last year’s World Footballer of the Year award forming a triangle around him – he desperately needed help (...)

    - ZonalMarking

Barca hold a key advantage here again, however, where Busquets has carved out a niche in shadowing deep-lying attackers. He knows what they eat for breakfast.

    - Paul Morrissey

A double pivot shouldn't contain Xabi and Xavi man.... fucks up the rhythm more than giving the stability

    Fixed it for you

Silva to alternate with the forwards and possibly Iniesta if he needs a rest. Thiago, Cesc and Romeu as backup midfielders, Reina as backup goalie.

I don't understand why VdB is afraid to use the best midfield there is, Xavi, Busi, Iniesta. No need for alonso, imo.
