March 24th, 2016 the world of football lost a true great and a personal fave. This three time Ballon d’Or winner significantly changed the way the game was played as a player and manager. One example is the “Cruyff Turn” a move replicated in the modern game. His protégé Pep Guardiola is carrying out the Cruyff Legacy to this day.

Johan Cruyff’s “Total Football” philosophy was summed up nicely when he said “In my teams, the goalie is the first attacker, and the striker the first defender."

Johan was 68 when he died of cancer. Both football clubs Ajax Amsterdam and FC Barcelona have named football stadiums in his honour.

Thank you Mr. Cruyff for your contributions to the Beautiful Game.

Where the water is warm, the drinks are cold... and I don't know the names of the players.

And than you for the sad reminder.

Unfortunately, these days, Barca lacks men of Cruyff's vision. Legacy goes on though. It's in the minds of all our former and current players that grew up in Cruyff's philosophy. And that flame will grow into fire again one day.

If there is a heaven, Johan Cruyff must have been a very happy man yesterday night. A victory not only for a historical club like Ajax that is no longer at the very top (solely due to the Bosman law) but Cruyff's and Rinus Michel's wonderful football philosophy. A footballing philosophy that have made our club the most successful in the world in terms of trophies won, dynasties created, playing style and legacy. Yet some people, including within our very own board and fanbase, want us to leave this model and continue to discredit it and call it outdated while 30 years of success clearly proves otherwise. Much like the pro-RM media in Spain who always want us to leave the Cruyff sporting model. Hopefully that will never happen.

It's already been 3 years. How fast time flies by.

That photo of Cruyff telling Frenkie to destroy Madrid is quite fitting now. Think it was in the Frenkie thread around the time of the first leg.
